I have just done my daily pop to Sainsury's to buy something for lunch

I get to the main entrance which isnt the largest, just about to walk through and see lady leaving with shopping trolley. So I do what gentlemen do and take one pace backwards to outside of the door and stand aside - nothing, not a smile, not a thank you nor kiss my ass. Worse still, I went to walk back in and exactly the same thing happened again!

Both women were, at least, middle aged - look out Monday cos I am coming through!

Get the same all the time, i call it the FU Society.

Get it with driving all the time, my right of way.. FU i'm just going to pull out in front of you/ pull around an obstruction/etc anyway.

Open a door for someone, they just wander though like you are a doorman.

I always give it a 'you're welcome' out loud when that happens to me.....makes me feel better anyway.

its even worse when you get the look that says " your expected to do that "... i wont hold my tongue here when i say i normally fire back an equally rude and ignorent comment which normally gets a response.

I put it down to the fact that there are so few of us gentlemen around these days... They are taken a back when it happens and don't know what to say... No big deal... Don't feel the need to be patted on the head like a wet nosed puppy ;)...

If I get the 'you are expected to do that' look I am minded that it is the gentleman's prerogative to do so or not.

I normally say " Thank you " Quite loudly.

Then when they turn and look I say " No, that's what you're supposed to say to me "

..................... Then walk away

Careful I got put in my place for suggesting that I wouldn't mind a thankyou on here in a thread the other day.

I'm not bothered if someone walks thro' without a thank you. I hold the door coz I'm a gentleman... see no point in letting the BP rise over it.

I'm a stay at home Dad which means, amongst other things, that I spend an inordinate amount of time in supermarkets. In fact, I'm in them so much that I now know which aisle certain products are in! Anyway, it's my experience that the rudest people of all are, in fact...

pensioners!

I've lost count of the times that I've stood aside and let them pass - no 'thank you'.
I've lost count of the times that I've opened a door for them and they've just walked straight through - no 'thank you'.
I've lost count of the times that I've queued up only to see one of them go straight to the front and demand to be served.

Now, I know that everyday is a bonus for them but surely manners are still required?

My daughter when she was 5 held a door open for a lady who just ignored her. "Thank you is optional" was her comment which made everyone around laugh. Naturally it went straight over the bitch's head.
