There's 3.5hrs of my life (almost) wasted. Thank goodness the opposing pair were great company. My regular playing partner likes a good drink far too often and, in truth, usually turns up 3/4 nissed from the night before. Most of the time its singles comps but today was foursomes, and not the game to turn up worse for wear.

Cue him turning up pretty much mega hungover, and probably way over the limit for driving. The first 3 holes he was gulping for air and trying not to throw up, and even walked off the 2nd green to throw up just as he was about to putt.

At the 6th, bearing in mind how bad he was, he pulled out a hip flask and demolished half of it in one hit. And needless to say we finished with a poor score.

But ho hum, 3 pints later he was ordering his 4th, and only 15 miles for him to drive home.

A beer after a game I can understand, and I do enjoy one myself, but turning up nissed then having a few hits from the hip flask on the way round and having at least 3 beers before heading home....madness

Sounds like a complete knob,I'd av been embarrassed to play with him & would have had a serious word with him.
Hopefully he gets pulled by the police before he kills someone.

Anotherdouble, considering your forum name : But seriously, with the drink driving limits in Scotland 1 pint and you could be over the limit.
Driving the next morning is a nono, if you've been drinking the night before.
Clubs and pubs are closing down , because of the smoking and new drink driving laws IMO.

I find this incredible.

Did he not have a wee chaser with his pint?

Very sad. The guy clearly has a problem with alcohol (something I know about). It's a tough call but the biggest issue is the danger he poses on the road to the innocent. Any damage he does to himself and his body is his own lookout (but another NHS statistic and cost ultimately). Would anyone here think of contacting the police and telling them what car he drives so they can be casually passing as he departs?

I'm with Karl and anotherdouble - as described it's a no brainer and if personal 8njury was involved in would be suing everyone (passively) involved because it was avoidable.

I'm not one to grass people up to the police, but I think I would on this occasion.
Not sure I could live with myself if he killed someone & I knew he was driving whilst in such a state.

Theres a couple of fellas like that at our place, and apparently one of them has a 30 mile drive home!! Total knobs, hopefully the police catch up with them soon enough...

Do what someone at our place did - warned the police and they picked them up one day.

The club should say something to all members about drinking and driving.

His friend the OP should be saying stronger words to him now if you really are his friend.

He clearly needs help.

I know what you mean. Grassing goes against the grain but we have a lot of cyclists and young kids not far from the entrance and on the local roads. I'd hate him to plough into them or a car and cause serious injury or death. He clearly isn't going to stop and so the police need to do it. We had a guy who use to do the same. Got caught by the police and currently banned for 18 months although that ends soon I believe and I am convinced once the licence is back he'll be doing the same thing again

What is it with people? If you saw someone breaking into a car or beating someone up you wouldn't think twice about phoning the police, so why not report someone you suspect of drunk driving? If they aren't over the limit then there isn't a problem, but if they are, they deserve all they get. We seem to have the attitude that if you drink and drive but aren't caught you are getting away with it.
My brother was mown down and killed by a drunk driver when he was 24 years old and in the prime of his life. The driver didn't stop to help, but drove home before phoning the police, leaving him on the side of the road to be hit again by another car. My parents never got over this and in fact their lives were ruined, to say nothing of his girlfriend and their family. I never met the driver of the car but I bet he wishes someone stopped him driving that night.
