Went to the range this morning for an hour and had a great session.

I tend to slice a lot of shots especially with the driver.
today I changed my grip to the baseball grip from the interlocking grip and found I was not gripping the club as hard and when hitting the driver the ball was flying straight. the same with the Irons, yes there was still the odd slice in there but on the whole very impressed with my session today. I will try and stick to this grip for the time being and see how I get on at the weekend on the course.

Clansman,

Well done on the range work mate.... I've just finished an hour at the range and now have 3 games in 3 days. Not overly pleased with tonights session but i'm going on the course with a clear mind tomorrow.... lets face it the weather is great and i'm not at work.

Any how, on the grip change, i used to have an overlapping grip where i hit a draw and sometimes a hook. My pro suggested i change to an interlocking grip and to start with a worked excellent. However, i'm now hitting a fade or a slice when i'm playing bad.

Anyway, heres to a great weekend of golf.

It's so good when it goes well, isn't it.

I used to interlock, pro changed it to overlapping because I was slicing badly. However, I started to hook really badly with the overlap, so have gone back to interlock.

Guess what, I still hook wildly?? But I'm working on it.

I never thought the interlock, vardon or baseball would actually affect your shots.

Surely its all about where you place the hands(2,3 knuckles etc) to begin with. Anyway, glad its worked for you!

Maybe you should work on your swing plane if you suffer a slice. I bet you swing too quickly and from out to in.

visit www.videojug.com and search 3 ball drill. Do this everytime you visit the range with your first 20 balls and I bet your slice starts to fade!

I had a lesson today with my old teacher and then went out for a rushed nine this afternoon. Not exactly got my golfing mojo back but at least during the lesson I could see the results of the changes. It was a little harder to take it onto the course and proves it is still a work in progress. Off tomorrow so torn between more range work to ingrain the changes made today or going out and playing (with the flaws still in my game) while it is still dry.

Tony, just watched the video, its great help mate, definitely going to try that out.

I know its not the type of grip that makes you hit a bad shot but if i use overlap it tends to become too strong, now with interlock i believe its my swing plane not my grip.

Get out there H, I find I take more from 9 holes than the range. I aint been the range for a month and I am striking the ball better than ever!

I enjoy the walk and surroundings more than concrete walls and rubber tees :D

Minty, as long as you have the basics right, i.e club in right place in the hand, correct amount of knuckles showing and the right hand placed on correctly, the way you grip underneath is hardly going to make any difference (so I beleive)

That 3 ball drill helped me to cure a fade. I used to strike the ball reasonably well and played to the fade, but I was just so desperate to hit a natural draw I worked really hard with that drill and with a little advice from RGUK its now coming. Everytime I went to the range I used the first 20 balls for that drill. the trick is to move the balls so close you can only just get the club through. I also slowed my backswing right down with a very very slight pause at the top, now I feel I can route the club on the inside and that is the key. shame I cant put.

Know I can probably hit a draw 7/10 times with the bad shots being a pull/hook 1/10. I can still play the fade by turning the toe out or pushing the hands forward but I dont like the fade.

The baseball grip can help you release, so it can be a good thing if you have a tendancy to slice. If you hook it though, wow, it really goes.

second that Tony, H get youself out there,

with decent weather I booked a day off yesterday and apart from the first hole found I had an awful slice which I thought I had virtually eradicated. Anyway took me 27 holes and more lost balls than I could count to finally get right and I definitely find it better and more enjoyable to sort it out on the course than on the range.Even played a couple of extra holes to make sure.

Downside is the wife isn't speaking cos I was so knackered last night I fell asleep in front of the telly leaving her watching alone listening to my ZZZZZ's !!

Took the advice and played this morning. Played off the whites as normal (1st is 220+ par 3) and lost a ball with my forst drive. Played three off the tee and was just short. After that it was pretty inconsistent with some good drives and approaches offset by some poor putting and a truely abysmal short game (no prizes for guessing what I'm working on tomorrow).

The changes the pro made at my lesson are sort of making a difference and when I swing properly the ball flight is much lower, more penertrating and wait for it, has the hint of a draw fighting to burst through.

Had the course to myself so it was worth going out for that alone. Managed to lose another 3 balls from the second onwards although one of those just ran off the fiarway and I presume rolled under a leaf. Couldn't find it despite being sure where it went. The other two were just big slices right and were the results of bad ball position at address and making poor swings. Had the odyssey 2 ball (XG2) in the bag for a trial but not going to be repeated for Sunday. A toss up between the Ross Spider and my old Odyssey dualforce 554. had been using the 554 before my 4 week break but feel I might need the extra forgiveness of the Spider. Will make a decision after an hour with the Eyeliner training device and working on my putting.
