It was a couple of weeks I didn't swing a club, because of work commitments.
If I were to play like I did at the range yesterday, all the doubts and rants wouldn't exist at all! I don't know how, but I managed to get exactly what I wanted almost every time with all the clubs (except the driver, because I can't find the rubber tee with a proper height for it).

Straight 5 wood for 200yds? No problem. Controlled chip near the 50yds flag? Easy as pie. I couldn't believe my eyes! No walls or roof hit, and I felt a much better control compared to the last time I played :O

Might it be a bit of a 'muscle memory loss'? I didn't feel that way since ages!

I am really puzzled. Of course the next time I am going to play on the course I am expecting to be back at the usual regime of lost balls and bananas...

Very very common story. We mostly put it down to the range being a very fake experience compared to playing the real game.

Try and get out for a few holes rather than the range when you can. That or... put pressure on yourself on the range by making games up that force you to start over when you miss.

Contrary to popular belief you have to make each golf shot every time in your mind rather than relying on muscle memory. Step out of your setup, take a step back, have a look where you are going, think about how you want it to fly and then get back into your posture... Every time for quality practice. Once your winding down give yourself some free play... no swing thoughts, just target and go...

I try and get to the club and practice field as often as I can rather than a range and hit off grass for as realistic a practice as possible. Sadly darker nights have started to curtail that and the range beckons. I tend to not get hung up on distances but work on drills and dispersion. I got free premium membership of this http://www.intelligentp.com/features-premium/ and use their range challenges to make it more than a ball hitting exercise
