Why is it there is always someone or a group there that always irritate, think they own the place or generally want to show off rather than just get on with hitting balls!

Tonight prime example, HID is away for a couple nights for my sisters birthday pampering. So thought would have nice couple days myself starting today by finishing work early to go and teach a kids Taekwondo as a stand in for regular instructor, then had a brief matt session with one of the other instructors. After this showered, changed and off to the range for bit of work and nice quiet evening!

That's where it went wrong! Nice and empty driving range, got myself a nice spot where I could fire at all the targets and 4 balls in some guy puts himself in the bay next to me and instead of getting on with what he's doing he decides to stand behind me and watch me, then starts trying to give me advice on why i'm not hitting my wedges right out there! Errr I'm hitting 1/2 shots to different targets at 40,60,80,100yds out to warm up not trying to kill the ball!

He then leaves me alone and half dozen balls later is telling me again how he can correct my swing as he can see i'm inconsistent what with slicing, hooking and thinning shots! Err no that's purposeful practice hitting a fade, draw, low and high shots with different clubs again to different targets and shots being aimed for and executed!

So leaves me alone again but at this point i'm hitting my driver and he starts hitting his then leans over stating how much further he's hitting his! Now I've had enough and tell him at least mine goes straight and tell him where to go with his advice and move myself down a few bays. But it didn't end there he came strolling over and said to me "look mate clearly you think you know how to play golf but I play off 11 and have been for years so I know what I'm talking about and maybe you should learn to take advice from better players like myself"

After he said this and I'd finished :rofl:and:clap: I couldn't help but unload on him and how maybe he should learn manners, respect and to leave others alone to their practice and next time he thinks of talking to me to think again and foxtrot Oscar!

Night ruined I packed my gear up leaving the last dozen or so ball and came home!

Now I feel better!

Reading this you would think you were lying... who would honestly be that much of a "rhymes with rock"

I don't really talk to people at the range and would never give advice to someone I didn't know... you would think he took the hint

Wow.... That is so random, I would have been shocked! Was he very young? Why would you carry on like that?

That's the thing never in my life have I come across someone like this and never though I would! I've often seen the groups that congregate around the teaching bay measuring manhood with the assistant pro there seeing how he can hit this shot and that, then trying it for themselves but this guy was just something else! I could have flattened him!

Plus I don't have that good an imagination to make it up! If I did I'd be writing novels!

Would've said at a guess late 30's, early 40s! Random and annoying!

Ive had a similar experience but it was on the course not on the range, safe to say I have not played with him again.

Greens maintenance starts on Monday for a week, so if all is good you should get the greens at a good time.

Sounds good to me, been meaning to play there for a while but just getting round to it. My brothers been in hot form so expecting it'll be me paying for the beers afterwards! But hoping for a nice day to enjoy it over there but i'm at a disadvantage as I've never played there whereas my old man is an ex member, and the other guy making up 4 ball is ex assistant over there now at mid kent

should of just flattened him out!!!

I didn't want to have to clean his claret off my clothes!

I sympathise with you whole heartedly and feel you were in a worse position having had to endure a round with someone like that

I always seem to get the Range Baboons next to me. You know! all zits and smelly trainers, put the ball on a long tee and then smack it into the bay roof with a wedge while making whooping sounds.

I usually get the talkers... You no the ones... They'll bring a wedge and a driver... Hit half a dozen balls with the wedge and empty the basket within 15 mins with their driver.. spraying it all over the place all the while after every shot commentating to themselves that its not this way its that way... Or no I should be doing this.....

I can't stand the ones that talk their whole session.....

Almost sounds like a wind up or annoying you for a bet! Maybe a tv sit com sketch?

I've Never come across someone like that, and to follow you to another bay and boast he's never got better than 11 and you should listen to him, smacks of someone who's clearly not right in the head
