Wanted....

Advice on the purchasing of a range finder / GPS wanted please.

Any for sale I would be interested in taking a look.

I have a Bushnell range finder which I find extremely useful (use on nearly every shot after the tee).

I also have a Garmin Approach GPS device which I think is a waste of money. Much better to invest in a smart phone and its multitude of uses and install appropriate software than spend £300 on kit which does one job.

i have a sky caddie sg5 and think its brilliant.. tells you all the distances you need to know to hazards, the pin ect. You can also move the pin position to where ever it is on the green for precise distance. Very accurate..

Glad to hear this as having sat on the fence for a while with regards getting a GPS, I bought one for a good price this afternoon! Having borrowed one from the pro for a little spell I found it so helpful. Fingers crossed it'll help my game! :)

How do you know the distance to the pin without checking first by walking round the course?

The only problem using a smartphone but specifically the iPhone is with the built in compass, which can't be disabled, you cant use it in competition I believe.

You cant use it in a competition even if it can be disabled. If its on the device, on or off, it's against the rules
