Random Irritations

It’s been 7 (busy) days since I got back to UK & most things have gone very well, but I’ll guess ppl would rather read about irritations..

  • Argos home del service is really poor, they suck you in to make an order giving the appearance items are in stock and you can choose del date but once ordered these dates wont be met and they ‘blame’ partners. If your partners are so poor why partner with them!
  • What happened to queen sized beds? It was single double, queen, king now it goes single, double, king, super-king, and while I’m on the topic of beds, what happened to flat sheets, most retailers we went in no longer sell them
  • Amazon are way too easy to order from. Wanted some ‘back to black’ car polish (common as muck back in the day) but couldn’t see it in stores, but sitting in garden last night and amazon says I’ll have it in less than 24hrs
  • Why does every restaurant, pub, café etc ask if I have any allergies but I’m never asked the same Q in any fast-food joints or takeaways
  • Where have all the post boxes gone?
  • As expected some stuff is very expensive here… although on the flip side, some stuff is really really cheap compared to old place
  • Why isn’t my handicap CDH number the same worldwide
  • Lemon and lime jaffa cakes, its like taking the wheel and bringing out a square version!
Dunelm still sell flat sheets.

First collection day of the new recycling/bin service down my road here in Ipswich.

Green bin (cardboard and paper) and the food waste caddy put down the end of my drive when I went to bed at midnight last night.

Awoke to find the Green bin empty but the food caddy was untouched. Wheeled the green bin back up the drive and left the food waste hoping it might be picked up later.

Had to go out for a few hours at 10 but got home around 2pm and the food caddy was gone. Got in and found the wife in and asked her if she knew when the food caddy had been emptied....she said it happened around 12 but the bin men were not happy.

She was having a chat with them and it appears that they've all had their hours extended....once they've done the main bin collection they have to return to depot, change into a different waste collection vehicle and repeat the same "round" they did in the morning...this time collecting the food bins.

Whatever the local council might be saving on more efficient recycling, they are surely spending on additional vehicles and wages!!!!

@nickjdavis we've been on the food caddy for a couple of years now. Works very well. Collected separately from the other bins but on the same day and within minutes of the main bins. Basically a small vehicle with 2-3 guys whizzing around. It sounds like your council have not cracked the efficiency angle yet.

Anyway, they may crack it at some point but bear in mind the council had no choice in this, it's a govt edict.

As a new trial, we have been given a small brown caddy to put food waste in (including raw meat and fish, cooked meat and bones). As it fills you transfer it to the the large regular brown bin which is collected fortnightly.

We've been on food bins for years and there only missed 1 collection in all that time....
We have a small bin for in the kitchen and a middle sized bin outside.
We fi d the inside bin can get pretty rank pretty quickly so we empty it into the outside on every couple of days...
We're also allowed to use non biodegradable plastic bags...I've sourced a box of 1000 that cost about 7 quid.
Costs next to nothing to change the bag every couple of days.

You leave food waste in the kitchen for a couple of days?!?! Not coming round to Chez Imurg for a meal 😷

We get the bags supplied FOC by the council. When the roll gets low, you tie one around the bin handle on collection day and they leave a new roll.

I'm a big fan of the food collections. It means the main kitchen bin is smell free and we empty that less. It works well, when the appropriate council sort the collections out eh @nickjdavis ;)

Just home from an interesting evening.
Got a call around 19.00 that eldest wasn’t feeling right with the baby, took her to hospital, no major problems apart from baby is breached and what she needs to do if she goes into labour before her appointment to have him.
Mum-in-law called around 22.30 (while we were still at hospital) our son (who has difficulties) has taken an overdose of his medication and on his way to hospital.
So me and the wife took turns spending time with the two kids.
Both are ok thankfully but it’s been a long night.

Good to hear both are ok 👌

Oh how I hope so.

How they managed to come up with the initial idea that sending out the same team twice on two separate rounds was the right way to go I'll never fathom. It just doesnt compute as a sensible rational way to do things.

Possibly because they don't have vehicles that can do both collections at the same time?

Bit of a long shot, but do you ever see a midnight blue TR6 buzzing around in your area?
I used to have one and the last I heard of it was that it was registered to an address in Ipswich!
That's a bit like an American asking me if I know the King.

But I now feel compelled to keep my eyes open for one when I'm out and about!!!

:ROFLMAO:

All they needed to do was to send both vehicles out at the same time...its not as though the food caddies are big and heavy...just dedicate a couple of guys from the "main crew" to do the food collection...one man could do 4 bins at a time no problem....the food collection vehicle was, according to the wife, a much smaller vehicle than the main bin lorry.

They've had months to organise themselves.....we've been spammed with promotional literature since Christmas about the new recycling services and what you can/cannot put in your purple and yellow spotted bin. The very least they could do was ensure they have the means to undertake the collection in an efficient and cost effective manner.

Today is the day my wife starts a 3rd round of chemotherapy. This option is paclitaxel but weekly. She couldn’t manage this in the 3 week dosage .. she was very weak at the time but everyone knows this is a risk, but there are other Paclitaxel options that don’t give this reaction and still achieve the goal of killing the cancer.
Access to this option can only be applied if the patient has enjoyed a big reaction and then funding has to be requested..

Life is limited, why should what remains be spent being run down, feeling tired or having severe reactions that require adrenaline pens … when it is not required, there are other options.
