I have a building at the bottom of my garden that I had built about 5 years ago when I was really into pool. It's about the size of a double garage with breezeblock walls and has a tiled, pitched roof.

If I'd known then that I was going to get into golf in a big way I'd have had the ceiling made 10' high, but I didn't so it's the same height as any normal room in the house ie. about 8'.

Does anyone know if it's possible (and if so a rough guess on price) to increase the height of the ceiling inside without having to rebuild the whole roof?
Even just a patch of it big enough to swing a golf club in would do.

Thanks in advance.

its absolutely possible...............however, raising to the height above normal room ceiling might infringe local planning so best speak with them after getting a builder or 2 to quote. Sorry cant help with pricing as there are so many variables

We didn't need planning for it originally because it was under a certain size and not for habitation (or that is what we were told anyway).

If it's possible to do what I want, the external dimensions won't be affected at all. I just want a 'swing channel' in the ceiling that encroaches on what would be called the loft space if it were a house.

Just a thought. Change it to a collared roof. So remove the ceiling joists and fix them (cut shorter of course) at a higher level. half way between the existing and the ridge. The rafters will probably need some metal strap fixings to prevent spreading. This should be done before the ceiling joists are removed. I would add a sketch if I had the faintest idea how to!

If its an outbuilding why not just take the ceiling down and alter a couple of trusses to suit?

As long as your roof don't drop it won't matter, it's only an outbuilding after all.

Thanks for the replies.

I've already tried going one plane and didn't get anywhere near it.
I can actually swing a club in there without hitting the ceiling, but it's close, and sooner or later I'm guaranteed to slap a club into it.
Maybe I should buy a net and mat now and just hit pitch shots! ;)

Next job is to figure out how to get all my kids junk out of there!
