OK another R11 Post.

Last weekend I tried out the R11 and took my R9 460 along for comparison.

Both 10.5 Stiff shafts set to neutral settings.

I hit about 20 with my R9 on the launch monitor then hit 20 with the R11 to compare it.

Both came out with virtually identical results. Apart from looking different they almost felt like the same driver, even down to the sound. Well to me anyway.

Anyone else tried the two side by side yet ?

Not tried them as a direct A-B test, but I've hit balls with the R9 460 and obviously the R11. Both myself and SteveK agreed that the R11 felt more solid through impact.

I'm not sure about distances or performance as I only had the trackman data for the R11 but I believe the R11 added 20 or 30 yards to Steve's driving distance once it had been setup correctly for him.

you could argue this was due to the fact that tm set the club up more precisely than the pro who sold him the r9 did. ;)

dont get me wrong im not syaing the r11 is all technical bull***, but im sure TM would have set that up alot more precisely than any club pro. This has to give better results.

I agree.

Hoping mine will arrive today so I can take it down the range tonight.

I have an R9 460TP i have only ever used it as it come in Neutral setting, when i was fitted Sean the TM guy asked my set up and he set the R11 the same. After a few shots he changed the face angle to Open and i gained on average 22 yards carry with a few up to 28 yards carry so the proof is there.

The R11 felt more solid and to me had a different sound on impact compared to the R9.

By the way i start in the TM Marketing department next week :D

steve, would you not be able to set your r9 closer to the r11 settings for a back-to-back comparrision.

I think if i put the R9 to the R setting i maybe could mate but the the weights would be different as the 460 doesn't have moveable weights. I know how i hit the ball and the R11 did hit it further with a really good flight.

doesnt some of the r9 models have moveable weights. ive lost track with the super deep, super tri, super doopa models then add the TP models to that list ;)

The original R9 (420cc version) does. I've got that too :-)

Steve, how long did it take TM to tune the driver to you're settings ?

I do change mine from time to time, mainly to compensate for a swing fault until I get myself swinging right again. Never really tuned it for distance.

12 to 15 balls ,Sean the guy who fitted me looked at how i was hitting it and changed it to suit, his knowledge of golf is enclopedia like,he's played pro golf worked on the truck so really knows what he's talking about.

really knows what he's talking about.

Biggest understatement ever!

Speaking of which, any joy for you yet Steve?

Your right there mate, these guys are a different class ,not yet mate you?.

At the end of the day it comes down to if you like it or not ,i liked it simples, and the results were there to be seen.

Nothing yet :( Still 5 and a half delivery hours left in the day though.

I really did want to like it. We'll I do like it. But I can change the colour on mine with a £3.50 can of spray paint :D

I was ready to part with my cash before I put the two on the launch monitor, but the numbers I was getting just couldn't justify that outlay.

I might go give it another try, maybe with a bit of tuning. If I can get another 20-30 yards with no loss in accuracy that would be worth the money in my mind.

Anyone know what a fitting session with the guys at Wentworth would cost ?

It would cost £100 for a 2 hour fitting which you get the full treatment using the matting 3d system which shows you all the angles in your swing pretty impressive. You get a Wentworth shirt and a dozen Penta's as well,if your in that area its well worth a go as the guy who does it Adrian is a top guy as well.

This.

I've already recommended it to two or three guys at my range.

If you can afford it, it's definitely worth it. Despite what the naysayers will say.

If if was a flat £100 I'm not sure I'd be interested. But if you getting what looks like £60-70 of stuff as well then It's tempting, it's only ~50 miles from me.

Even if I don't buy.

I assume if you choose not to buy then there are no extra charges ?
