Ive been offered a good deal on a R15 Driver. I know its low spin high launch but wondered what the forgiveness was like. Im using a Cobra Amp Cell at present. Any R15 users comments welcome.

Better than the SLDR apparently, but not much. I played with an R1 for a couple of years. It was quite low launching, even in the maximum 12 degree loft setting, and not particularly forgiving of off centre hits. When I first had it, anything hit off the toe went nowhere and right. I improved this by swapping the head weights round, after which it was OK, but not as good as the Cobra driver I have now. In the R15 I understand that you get the most forgiveness by setting the movable head weights as far apart as possible.

I have been looking at the Cobra Fly Z but a local pro mentioned he had a couple of R15 drivers in and offered a good part ex and cash deal. My playing partner has one but its a X Flex so not really able to try it. Hes only just got it so is still trying to get his best setting.

I'd say it's "reasonably" forgiving but like any club if you put a terrible swing on it then there's not much the club can do with that.

When I first got mine I was swinging really well so kept the weights in the centre and the ball was going significantly further than a similar swing with my Titleist 913D2. My song then went off a bit so I put the weights out to each side on the r15 and I found that helped quite a bit. I also found that the reduced spin also helps with distance even on less than perfect swings.

My swing is back to where it was so I've got the weights in the centre again and am hitting the ball well. I've got a 9.5 degree head set to 10degrees with the standard stiff shaft.

I've seen the r15 advertised as low as £139 for ex demos and £169 brand new and at those prices feel that it's a very good buy.

Hope that helps, but if want any more info just let me know.

Can you borrow it and try it first. All subjective depending on how you swing and so only one way to really know before you part with the cash

Thanks for the info

Not really as both still have the wrapping on them. I did try my friends with the x flex but lost it right everytime. Mind you a 45mph left to right wind didnt help :D

Sorry meant to ask how you found the stock stiff shaft? My swing speed for driver is about 95mph so borderline stiff ive been told

I've found the stiff shaft to be fine, adjusted the loft up a bit to match the setting I had on the Titleist.

I thought that stock stiff shaft was poor. I find the club quite forgiving. I think you need a proper fitting with a pro to get the most out of the settings. I would defintely get this done if I wasn't going to replace it.

I had the R15 and then moved to the Fly Z and for me personally there was no comparison, the Cobra was by far the more forgiving of the two.

Moving through the TM range as I have, I have owned a Superfast 2.0, an R11S and the R15, all fairly stock stiff shafts.
The Superfast 2.0 was reckless, it went very well off the centre when buttoned but anywhere away from the pinhead sized sweetspot and it could end in a different postcode.
The R11S I loved and kept it for 4 years or so, the odd bad one could exit stage right if not careful but quite a forgiving club.
The R15 I have had for about 6 months now (only been able to play a handful of games with it really with the weather etc). I have found the shaft and head to feel very light compared to the R11S but after a practice range stint and a couple of rounds I have found it to be fairly forgiving like the R11S. Not as forgiving as say, a Ping G15 which could practically hit any area on the face and still go in the desired direction. I wouldnt swap it for anything else currently out there (M1 etc included).

Well i went and had a little try at lunchtime...............and walked out with a Cobra Fly Z :D. Tried both but although the R15 felt and sounded a little more solid the flight and forgiveness of the Cobra just pipped it for me. Off centre hit with the Cobra wasnt as punishing. Thanks for the replies

I am currently playing the R15 and love it. Got fitted for it and very quickly ruled out the cobra. This was just so much more consistant for me and very forgiving (I don't have the weights massively spread either). Ask any of my playing partners its made a hell of a change to my game.

I tried out an M1 and thought it was pretty good; much easier to hit than some recent TM drivers. Just a shame about the price tag! :(
