Like many it seems on here, i have recently got a R1 in regular flex.

First impressions were good, nice club and i like the red and black colour design aswell. Went to the range on Thursday to hit it for the first time and it felt nice.

Played a few holes this afternoon to get my first look at it on the course. Previously played a tour burner and i was hitting a little further with the R1. Was getting a much nicer lower flight with a good deal of run. (standard 10 degree setting) Found it a little less forgiving on bad strikes though but overall pretty happy. With the colour scheme, certainly puts pressure on the first tee shot :D

Just wondering how others are getting on with it.

I had an R11 previously which gave me a nice high draw

Took me a while to get used to the R1 and the Lower ball flight I get from it.

Certainly get a decent amount more distance from it

Now I'm used to the driver it's very good indeed

Yeah, i like the lower flight from it. good for the links :)

My playing partner and I both bought the R1's on special from Discount Golf for £99 and tried them for the first time today on the course. After a very quick warm up we both made a hash of the first tee, with me hooking the crap out of it and John sending his off to the right with a low skudded shot :o

2nd tee with a much slower swing we both hit good balls down the left where we were aiming, however neither of us hit it out of the middle. In short we hit some very good shots but we also hit a couple of bad shots with not many out of the middle, which is unusual for both of us as we're normally quite consistent.

The few shots I did hit out of the middle stayed in the air for a long time and I was surprised how little I was penalised with shots out of the heel.

The R1 head is heavier than my RBZ. The RIP Phenom shaft is also lighter and whippier than the Matrix Ozik HD6 TP I have fitted to the RBZ, which may explain the inconsistency, however I was more than happy with the results given my lack of practice and time with the club.

I think that a with little bit more time and a few adjustments I'll hopefully see some very good results.

I have a couple of shafts to try and may even swap out the HD6 from my RBZ as I managed to get an Xcon 6 from ebay for a very good price.

All in all for £99 I'm very happy

I'm very pleased with mine. At the standard 10 degree loft setting I had some difficulty getting the ball into the air, but after adjusting the loft to 11.25 degrees, the ball flies very nicely with a decent amount of run. Much tighter dispersion than my previous driver. Only downside is that the face is quite deep but relatively narrow. I have hit a couple of bad drives off the toe that I probably would have got away with using my previous Callaway driver, which had a shallower and wider face.

Shame they had to change the adaptor or those shaft changes would be much cheaper.

Will be happy to see a few even cheaper R1's in the for sale section, as I might succumb ;)

I have an R1 shaft for sale

You can pick up the adaptors in either 0.350 or 0.335 dia for £10 and if you keep an eye out you can get the TM TP shafts going on the forum or ebay at very good prices.

There isn't anything wrong with the stock shaft although it does launch medium high for me in the regular but with a little more time I'll be able to either dial that out or bring the spin and trajectory down with another shaft.

As for the R1's going cheap on the forum, they're still going for over £100 second hand on ebay however because it's a driver you need to work with to get the best out of it some people will throw in the towel to early and that means there will be some bargains to be had.
