Uttering the name doesn't worry me at all, I've been typing it in enough into google and youtube recently.... but I won't mention it as I know some of you have a deep fear of the word.

I just wondered if anybody nearly quit or taken an extended period of time out of the game due to the *****'s ?

How will you get rid of the shanks if you give up or take a break. Press on, work out why its happening and get back to having fun...

yup. I did. Came very close earlier this year. Stopped playing, found something else to do for a few weeks and then came back with no expectations or thoughts on how to swing the club.

Does everyone not get the shanks from time to time? Laugh about it and things soon return to normal.

PW to green. Line up, thinking about a birdie chance, swing easy,, swing easy,, shank!!

Watch your playing partners looking at the green to see where the ball is. But its in the trees.

Watch the balls hitting every branch of the tree on the way down.

I normally end up gutting myself, which allows your partners to say "what happened there?"

Embrace and enjoy the shanks when they pay you a visit!!

First time I started him a series of shanks I got over it by aiming right. I had changed my swing path to the right without really noticing and was trying to hit a fade. Yikes

I got them a few years ago. 2 weeks of nothing but straight right daisy cutters.. Absolutely soul destroying.. I walked off in the middle of a round and didn't pick up the clubs for 2 weeks. When I came back they'd gone.. Closest I ever came to quitting..

Here to visit? Mine have moved in and are eating me out of house and home!

I'm talking about hitting 10 very good shots at the range and then 100 shanks in a row. Try changing grip, distance from ball, swing path, speed, club... only result shank after shank.

Keep your head still

Go for a lesson, a good pro will fix you in a heartbeat.

I suffered from it for over a year and try as i may with hints, tips, you tube etc the only fix i got was from a pro who stood with me and watched my swing.

Best £20 i ever spent on golf.

Have a lesson booked on Christmas Eve, will be the best present I could hope for if he fixes it. At the moment I'm worried I won't shank in front of him but they'll come back when I leave. Yes I'm aware that's sounds very paranoid.

Lol @ Danny's daisy cutters. My ones clear the trees on the right of the fairway. do it right man. You want to get a bit steeper into the ball.

When I had a bad bought of the Arthur J's it turned out it wasn't the Shermans at all. I was hitting the ball out the toe!

I suffered from them a few years ago now. Must have hung around for about 3 or 4 months. Was never sure when one was going to rear it's ugly head.
Usually on a par 3 where you were trying to be a bit cute.
I got round it eventually by taking one less club and smashing the ***** out of it

I'm going to the range with a workmate at lunch to get a video, so you can all

a) see me looking smart
b) tell me what i'm doing wrong!

The pro will want you to shank it, thats how they'll see the problem

I had one summer where my trusty five iron, the club i use off the tee on regular occasions, was going awry and i was hooking shots left all the time. It was a miserable experience, particularly as other parts of my game were fine but it was a case of working through it and eventually it came good again. The margins are so fine that sometimes it can be an unconcsious change which ruins everything or makes it better.

Cheers Gaz mate :D.. I once destroyed a ladies red tee marker with a septic.. The thing must have been rotten inside as it shattered into a million splinters as the ball hit it.. Cue a 1000 yard walk of shame to the greenkeepers hut to ask for a replacement...:o
