Have been getting worn out recently playing in windy conditions. It's the constant roar in the ears that does it.
Decided to put some cotton wool in them: what a revelation. peace and quiet plus greatly improved ball striking. There is hardly any sound of metal on ball just a satisfying solid feel at contact.

However.

I cannot sugest this as a general method for all to try or

The guy in the distance waving 4 fingers at you is trying to tell you there's a ball on its way in your direction.
