I'm getting mixed answers from people.

Can your handicap be changed playing in a singles 3/4 handicap comp? I thought yes. They just recalculate your score off full handicap and change it accordingly.
My pal said no because off a 3/4 handicap you might pick up on a hole you normally would have scored on

Cheers

3/4 handicap is usually an easy way of getting out of making a comp a qualifier.

Just checked our Results and the last 4 weeks we've a had singles comp on either Sat or Sun all off 3/4's and people have been cut, is there any chance you can get authority to make Handicap cuts of 3/4's or have the Club messed up?

We played a 3/4 Comp last week, I finished 3rd and was cut 0.6, link below from Masterscoreboard.

Somehow - and I don't know how - someone has deliberately set out to bypass the safeguards built into CONGU-approved computer-based handicapping software. I have been using Handicapmaster software for 13 years and I know that, as soon as you specify 3/4 handicap for a competition, it automatically become non-qualifying. Whoever has managed to do it has to be challenged.

PS

Just checked again and it seems that it can be run as a qualifier using full handicaps but the results can be based on 3/4 handicap and restriction on maximum handicap. Why would a club do that?

Paul that shouldn't be happening - they have managed to allow the software cuts for 3/4 when its against congu

Just accepted it, as you do, reading the results some people have been cut upto 2 shots!
Playing tomorrow I will question it(carefully)

No you can't adjust HC from a 3/4 comp

By the rules yes

~Dec.1(j) Limitation of Handicaps in Qualifying Competitions
Q. May an Affiliated Club impose a limit of handicap to some of their Qualifying Competitions e.g. insist
that a player with a Playing Handicap of 27 competes from a handicap of 18?
A. This is contrary to the spirit of the UHS. Players must be allowed to play from their established
handicap.
The player must play off full handicap and the correct Playing Handicap must be used when
calculating the Competition Scratch Score. The organising Committee may then adjust the scores for
the purpose of awarding prizes for the competition.

So clear as mud then? 

Just to clarify, it's the other way round. The scores with full handicap are used for handicap purposes and then adjusted - to 3/4 or whatever - for the allocation of prizes.

So, from the start, would it be declared a Q Comp but that prizes would be awarded using 3/4 & maybe a limit with also 3/4 applied? Is that permitted?

CONGU doesn't want clubs to do it but will grudgingly allow it provided CSS is calculated using the scores with full handicap applied and any handicap adjustments made using those scores and that CSS. As said, and I agree with it, it is against the spirit of the handicapping system to artificially alter players' nett scores for the awarding of prize money. You either accept the system or you don't.

Thanks Jim.... I'm only in my 1st year's direct involvement with H/Capping but am seeing many apparent anomalies that are hard to address... have PM'd one to you for comment if you wouldn't mind.

Surely this is the crux. No matter what system you use, it has to be done within CONGU limits surely and handicap secretary's shouldn't be tampering

Read my posts Martin. It isn't tampering. Provided full handicap is used for CSS calculation and handicap adjustments, CONGU rules allow prize allocation based on less than full handicap allowance.
