Good afternoon ladies and gents

Is it possible to hand in a general play card from a round at another course (all signed and above board etc) to my club for a handicap cut/or increase??

thanks

I cant see it being a problem if there all signed correctly by a member of said club.

I'm putting in some cards for my wifes first handicap, and only one of them is from my club, which is the one she's looking to join.

The club i joined would not except my current handicap at another local club or any signed comp cards from there. Told me i could play in any of the club comps to register cards but could not win any of them until i had an official club handicap (4 cards).

My Clubs is never interested in rounds elsewhere for H/C puposes, mind you, thats because its 3/4 shots harder than most other places.

Your club should always take into account competion rounds from other clubs - if not you are playing of a false handicap

And they can't use the that club easier/harder than this club excuse because that is what the CSS and SSS are for.

They are either being lazy or are badly run.

This is written on the Congu website-
Report to his Home Club as soon as practicable all Qualifying Scores (including ‘No Returns’ and Disqualified Scores – see Appendix P) returned away from his Home Club advising the Home Club of the date of the Qualifying Competition, the venue, Standard Scratch Score and the Competition Scratch Score.

Your club should have a sheet displayed where you can fill your scores in, then the handicap secretary will notify you of any change

Yes as long as a member signed your card.

Daily play at most clubs even when signed by a member doesn't seem to count to handicap even though by the letter of the Gongu it ought to.

I had this out with a couple of clubs I've been a member of & they wont accept daily play & comps at other clubs. Now when I was a member I was trying to get my handicap down & it really annoyed me that I couldn't enter scores from dalys & none club aways, even when playing with one of the away clubs members.

Yet I have read of clubs who seem to allow any sort of daly card to count...

Go figure.

Sorry but no you can't. It's not a qualifying round so doesn't count for h'cap purposes.

Unless the ladies have different rules, then you can't do that either. A new handicap has to be played for at and issued by the designated home club.

As wacky & freddie have said, this is totally wrong, and you are in effect playing off a false handicap. Does your h'cap Sec just not know how to enter away scores or something, so avoids the issue? :D

This clarifies it somewhat. Basically, as this is a signed away card for a bounce game, and not a qualifying comp, it could be considered towards a general play adjustment only. Also....

The Handicap Committee may NOT apply any formula to the calculations made under General Play.

Part Five (Decisions), Decision 15 of the regulations identifies that a single low score is not sufficient evidence alone to justify a General Play reduction

Along with Wacky and the other girls, hope I can help when this question is asked, "different for ladies", I mean. As far as this one is concerned my understanding is for new handcaps only, the above is spot on.
www.congu.com/template1.asp?pid=162, a good read, if your really bored.

When I was at Crowborough, if I had a good round at another course, whether a "serious" round or just a friendly, and handed my card in to the secretary she would take it into account for handicap purposes.

She doesn't have a home club, she's on the waiting list at my club, and has been told to put some cards in for handicap. So best you ring our secretary up and have a word with him. ;)

Just show him the link that teegirl put up twire, states clearly there that it has to be 3 rounds at your home course. She also can't play for a handicap until she is a memeber somewhere.

All I can say is thats what I was told she could do. Maybe its just a dummy handicap to see if she's good enough. Our waiting list also works on a points system and the better the handicap the more points the higher up the list.

I believe its down to individual club committees to decide on this. As a general rule clubs will allow general play cards to count for handicap under the 'extra day scores' process from members but those extra day scores normally need to be played at your home club only. You also need to inform the Match and Handicap Secretary before you play of your intention to submit a card, not go out and play casually, suddenly hit a good score and then think...hmmm...might try and get a cut etc. Doesn't work like that.

As others have said already if its a competitive event from another club then that score should be incorprated into your handicap record.

If a player is struggling to play 3 formal events in a season to keep a handicap then extra day scores help players keep a handicap.

Personally I think a handicap is better when based upon play in a competitive environment where pressures are different than a friendly bounce game with a mate.
