I'm a 25 handicapper playing with a set of old cheap clubs, I play a few times a week & have had a few lessons so looking to buy some decent clubs.

I was at the local golf shop today to book a custom fitting & while I was talking to him he said the Mizuno 100's or 200' were a good club that we could try out tomorrow when I have the fitting booked. Now I have nothing again Mizuno but what I was wondering is that these clubs are 2 years old so would I be better going for something else? Now I don't know what kind of stock they have but there must be a replacement for the 100's & 200's due shortly & surely there have been some improvements in clubs in the 2 years since the 100's & 200's were released?

The Mizuno range is about to change and some new irons for higher handicaps are coming out, called JPX800. The 100s and 200s are stil very good irons, if they suit you, and may be available at discounted prices soon. Very little changes, except fashion, in 2 years in irons.

Well he said the 100's & 200's were just under €500 though he did say there would be a discount on that, he didn't say how much. He also had a set of MacGregors that were down from €495 to €295 but I have no idea what version of the clubs they were.

The 100's are cast and the 200's are forged. The 200's will need a bit more TLC than the 100's.

The 100's have more offset than the 200's if I remember correctly. Great if you're a persistent slicer. But just be careful. Over-correction can lead to a nasty hook! (personal experiance).

New models are coming out from Mizuno next month. But that doesn't mean to say that there is anything wrong with the 100 or 200. Though they should be at a good price as retailers try to shift stock.

Personally I found the 300's more consistent than the 200's to hit, and they're better looking.

As far as the 200's go. I'd imagine that there might be a few on eBay from folks who want to upgrade or just to buy the newer kit.

Just don't be forced into buying something that you're not entirely happy with. Especially when the big guys have stock to clear.

Happy hunting.

I think if you wait for the new models to actually hit the shelf you'll have a little more barganing power with the guy who will obviously want to make room for the new stock. The 200's are a decent club and forged so will feel lovely off the sweetspot.

Alongside this, I'd add that the 100s are ok, and fine and all that. But there are clubs out there that are as good and a little ( in some cases quite a lot )cheaper. I think you are paying for the Mizuno brand on clubs which are not typical Mizunos.

For me, the advantages of Mizuno are with their forged clubs.
