Hi all,
*
I was wondering if someone could help me ascertain who wins in the following scenario...
*
36 hole medal (nett trophy).* Both Player A (1 handicap) and Player B (5 handicap) shoot 68 nett first round.* Second round, they both shoot 69 nett.* To determine the winner, countback has to be used.* As the players cannot be separated on the 'back 18', they then have to use the back 9 of the 'back 18'.
*
The scores for each player are below.
*
Many thanks for your help with this

Agree with CheltenhanHacker:thup: - player two - only IF countback continues as usual (in my experience) to Back 6, Back 3 and Back 1, then P2 wins on back 6 nett score of 22 vs 23 for P1.
That said, those may not be the CoC so may be a Tie.

Player 2 from scores based on best back 9 -2 to -1.
But there is not hard and fast rule for count back each club/comp can have it's own set up.

Is it necessarily the back 9? I photographed a County Junior competition on Sunday & they did the countback on the front 9 because the front 9 included the no. 1 stroke hole. anyone else heard of this?

As long as the procedure is noted in the CofC, it doesn't matter how the do it!

But the usual method is Back 18, 9, 6, 3, 1 - and then maybe a coin toss!

Our competition sheets have the countback scores for everyone shown and it looks as though because its a net score countback, a % of their handicaps are taken into account so back 9 would include 50% handicap, if still level back 6 and 33% of handicap and so on Our results sheets would look something like this
Gross Handicap Net
80 10 70 35, 21.7, 9.6, 4

The last 4 figures being the back 9,6,3,1

as for stoke index 1 countback thing, that used to be the case but the guidelines now state that countback should be on the back 9 regardless of where stroke 1 is but just a guideline not a rule i believe

The usual, and certainly the default in any software I've used is back 9, 6, 3, 1 then front 6, 3, 1

It's nett so handicaps matter.....

Back 9.....
Player A - 35 - 0.5 = 34.5
Player B - 37 - 2.5 = 34.5

Back 6....
Player A - 23 - 0.33 = 22.67
Player B - 23 - 1.67 = 21.33 therefore the winner!

As above, they may have a different method but why on earth some clubs do this I don't know....because they can?? I had a cracking front 9 last week in a board comp and finished 2nd on c/p. You just have to accept it but equally I'd certainly question the result as it's very unusual not to adopt the accepted method.

which competition - I can't find these scores against the second round of either of the last 2 36 hole comps at West Cornwall?

The default is usually back 9, 6, 3, 1 then front 9, 6, 3, 1.
Unsure why the question was asked in the first place, as the computer software (either Club Systems or Intelligent Golf) will automatically work out the result.

I agree player B, our club uses a similar CB calculation ie last 9,6,3,1
