As my boss has to pick his daughter up at lunchtime we have decided to play queens park golf club instead of our usual course. I just checked the prices and as we are teeing off at about 1:15 it is only going to cost £5 for a round. I cant see us getting around all 18 holes in the 3 hours before dark but at £5 that doesnt bother me as this is a course that players like J H Taylor, Harry Vardon, James Braid, Alex Herd and not to mention Seve Ballesteros have played.

Has anyone played Queens park and is it as good as people tell me it is?

It's been some twenty years since I played there. From what I remember a surprisingly hilly course, and a few very wide fairways to really rip it off the tee. Some of the holes seemed quite long, but I really couldn't hit a ball back then! (No comments please!) For a fiver, definately worth playing. I think the ground is quite sandy, so should be quite dry to play off. One hole used to have gorse in the middle of the fairway at dring distance, just to catch you out.

Meyrick is the more interesting course of the two town centre courses. But Queens is a different challenge.

I'm sure that you'll enjoy it.

Not to bad but as said a little up and down.

Also watch out for dog walkers, they have right of way and have a habit of just walking out from the trees with out warning.

Not at all. I was only a 16 year old teenager playing the Bournemouth Open. I think that's where it all started to go wrong. A few days with some mates, not focussing on the golf but about getting beer, getting drunk, leering at women and generally fooling about

I played Queens Park a lot before i joined a club in the early 90's and have very fond memories. For the price and being a muni it is really quite good, and a decent challenge. As Homer says, the public can be a pain, and it can have slow rounds. But this time of year they will be more dedicated golfers, less of the lads having a laugh, so it may be quicker.

I think you'll enjoy it. As Hapless says, try Meyrick sometime too.

Played it a couple of times. It is a good course, both rounds seemed to take forever but that might have been the hangover!

I like the Par 3 2nd downhill with houses the other side of the road!

Your right Homer there are a lot of dog walkers down there.
