This weekend will be my clubs last qualifier until April next year. I cant knock the club during the summer as we have close to 100 Qs that are playable.

But when it comes to golf in the winter, its hard work knowing you could play the round of your life and not have anything to show for it (in handicap terms).

anyone else share my frustration at their club?

Why not just notify the pro shop before hand that you intend on putting in a supplementary?

I have in the past. Not so much now.

We've never had qualifiers from mid October to the first week in April, but there is one planned for later this month.

I'm not for one second thinking about not playing in it, but 6300yds (yellow tees) with a scratch of 70 against a par of 72 and the course playing long-ish due to little run and the possibility of nasty weather mean that I'm not as keen for winter qualifiers as I used to be.

Anything over +3 gross is likely to be 0.1 back.

My home course goes to a shortened course - winter tees and greens, when necessary, and fairway mats through the winter so no qualifiers. You wouldn't really want to anyway - as it becomes a bit of a mudbath in places over winter.

I can still play a qualifier a month down the coast at my other course (links) and can play proper golf all winter there so keep things ticking over.

Aye, playing a qualifier in January in Scotland, can't feel your hands, snotters blinding you, social gowf is the best option during a scottish winter!!

mine finished in September, despite the fact that October has been just about the nicest month weather wise this year. Don't get it.
We have qualifiers in march, when it's usually freezing, on a course that is in poor condition following winter - yet in Oct, when the courses are in good shape, there are none.
also don't why there are so few winter knock outs, and so few events in general.

I'm done for the year too. It's been a pretty poor season for me and I'm a little frustrated to have finished the year on 11.5. Especially frustrating not to have any qualifiers when the weather and condition of the greens is better now than in May and June.

Had out last qualifier on Sat and closing day shotgun was yesterday. Winter time is all about the Winter Leagues pairs matchplay though.

We go to fairway mats in Nov, through to late Feb so no supplementaries either. But in all honestly, I like the break from thinking about your handicap. I like working on a few things to get them grained in over winter whilst still having a slight competitive edge with the winter league, but also with a very good social feel. Lots of fun to be had!

We have normally have 6 different leagues as well, Sat mornings and afternoons and Sun mornings. Both have Red & Blue leagues running. After the leagues are done we have Red Vs Blue where you play against your counterpart from the opposing league. That's a bit of rivalry and it's also the only time we'll mix the Red and Blue area's of the bar afterwards, but all done in good spirits and lots of humour.

He is cat 1 - unable to put in supplementary cards

Sam there are a number of winter series opens that are qualifiers around the country?

Yeah i am tempted by these, FoA and The Belfry mainly, would have to wait until new year though as i have already used up pretty much all my holiday already this year, oh and HID is threatening to get the suitcase out if i play much more golf this year ;)

our last Medal was Saturday just gone, i think we have a Wednesday cup next week, but that it till next April.

so social golf for the next 5 months.
