Qatar Rigged?

had to be, I personally think Mr Blatter et al are as bent as a 9 bob note!

Then again they are probably the same as most other governing bodies.

Aren't all major championship allegedly given to the countries with the biggest stuffed brown envelope left in the corner of the presidential suite at the top hotels..... :mmm:

Even with all this, does anyone think that they might pull it from Qatar and have another vote?

Personally I don't think the World Cup should be going anywhere that football isn't played on the scale required to host the world cup in the first place. Especially when they are now talking about moving it to either Dec, Jan or Feb which is not even the deal they big with and was accepted.

I think the 9 bob note could sue for defamation of character for being compared to them. Having watched a number of games with inexplicable refereeing decisions, I wouldn't be at all surprised if some of the business decisions were carried out in a similar manner. I wonder how long it is until the 2022 World cup is officially moved to the winter, thus utterly screwing up most go Western Europe's football schedule.

And pay the money back?

Are we even sure that the deal wasn't for a winter World Cup all along and us peasants were just fed a story about air conditioned stadia to keep us quiet?

Of course it was. FIFA & UEFA would like to see football become a summer sport in the Northern hemisphere and this will be a convenient first step towards achieving that. After all which European footballing countries have any significant season-long sports throughout the summer.

I nearly fell for that and said cricket………

I meant apart from cricket, which is only an issue in England and we all have seen that none of the Home Nations is regarded very highly by either FIFA or UEFA.

Was never really going to be surprised when something like this surfaced, they hardly won it on footballing merit, heritage and pitch quality, did they?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...ent-Jack-Warner-and-family-paid-millions.html

I'd be more surprised if Warner was the only one they bribed.

The whole Qatar thing, and the reporting of it annoys the hell out of me. This vile country should never have been awarded any international sporting event until it sorts out its human rights issues and yet the only objection the media seems to have is the temperature.

I suspect (and hope) that Qatar will be to FIFA as Atlanta was to the IOC. The IOC (allegedly) used to make decisions on the location of the Olympics on not completely sporting criteria, if I can put it that way. This came to a head in Atlanta which should never have been chosen, but it was due to (allegedly) big businesses such as Coca-Cola 'oiling the wheels' so to speak.

After that the IOC changed and the whole process of awarding the games became more transparent. I am sure there is still an element of skulduggery going on, but it has cleaned itself up a lot. However FIFA is much as the IOC were 20 years ago.

But if Human Rights were to be considered most recent Olympics and Worl Cups would never have taken place.

Sochi, Beijing, Athens, Sydney (ask the aboriginal people!) and so on....

I think they all pale in comparison to Qatar, 400 people already killed building the stadium iirc?

Whilst I endorse your sentiments regarding the deaths of migrant construction workers. although your stats are debatable. I am amazed by your suggestion that the records of the other countries quoted pale by comparison.

Russia, China, Greece! Veritable paragons of Human Rights I'm sure.

I didn't refer again to Australia as I know from previous experience that it is not a popular move on this site to criticise our Antipodean cousins.
