Interested to hear your thoughts guys. Pitching, chipping, bunkers I always feel more comfortable and confident with a specialist wedge in my hands rather than the wedge that comes with my iron set. As my irons are game improvers they are great for inspiring confidence when hitting a full shot but on partial swings and delicate shots you just don't have the same feeling that they are going to nip the ball off the surface.

So my question is how many of you prefer playing 3/4 - 9 iron and then specialist wedges?

I've kept the PW from my set as it's really a 9 iron in disguise....

The 3 other wedges are all Vokeys and they do feel better for those delicate shots.
I don't play 1/2 or 3/4 shots with my PW most of the time, they get reserved for the Vokeys.

My PW feels the same as my 9 iron, because of it's size at address.

My wedges are all much 'nicer' looking clubs at address. I hate the chunky wedges with an inch worth of club sole, would never feel confident of getting the ball away with it.

I'd rather play a full wedge than a half or 3/4 swing with the PW. Should be able to do both, all about personal preference and what is required for your course i suppose.

All my irons are delicate but I do know what you mean. I think I will always have players irons in my shot irons, PW-8 and then bladed wedges.

When I got mine I toyed with the idea of getting 3 - 9 but was persuaded on two counts they are blades anyway and if I ever sell them on most folk like to buy to a PW and it might have an effect on resale value.

My 9 iron is 44
PW is 48
SW is 56

But I love playing around with the PW using different swings and grip positions. Lots of options and less confusion.
I think Aztek has an extra shot in his armoury since our game at Sudbrook :)

My PW is my club togo to if there is green to work with, if its a tight pin I'll jump up to my 52degree.
I see alot of members trying loft the ball in and hope it stops. Get the ball on the floor and rolling.

I always keep the PW
But add 'specialist' wedges for Gap - Sand - Lob, etc

But Id like to ask, do those that buy Vokeys, etc....... get them Fitted the same way they do their irons...??....or just buy standard off the shelf........??

Alway had the PW&SW come with the set. This is the first time I have had differant ones. Infact first time I have tried anything other than just PW&SW. Will have to see how I get on???:fore: .

This is part of the reason I switched irons. I was really confident playing chips and pitches around and approaching the green with my Vokey wedges, but using anything from my iron set felt completely different. For example I could never get decent results playing bump and runs as I had no feel for the distance. Maybe the answer was to practice more but I went the shiny route instead and now I can use anything down to my 8 iron and have the same feeling from it.

I've kept the PW from the Wilson Staff set but my PW is bent to 46 degrees.

I've then got Cleveland gap wedges.

I did have vokey wedges but they were 54 and 60 which was too big a gap from my PW.

I like my PW but it's slightly too bulky for the intricate green side shots. My 60 degree wedge is my go to green side club.

I've played 4-PW in most of the sets I've had over the last ten years or so and had specialist wedges if you can call them that. I prefer to think of them as utility clubs to fill the gaps in distances and to give me more variety around the greens. I have carried PW (from the set) 52 and 58 for about five years now and the TM TP Z wedges I got were bought because I preferred the weight and the way they sat. I bought a 56 and a 60 too later on and have dallied with 52, 56 and 60 but to be honest the 60 has been a liability so have ditched that now.
