Hey all I'm not looking for help I just need somewhere to rant awhile

I mostly play matchplay most weekends against my dad I'm the better player and he gets 7 shots.
I drive the ball further then him I am more consistent then him with the woods irons and wedges.
But he always holing putts that just punch me right in the gut and hes always doing it.

Last time we played he holed many good putts which is about normal for him and he was 1 up playing the 17th and I had a par 4 on that hole and he "looked like getting a par himself which meant I could only draw the game.
He had a birdie putt and its a massive putt ridiculous long silly putt , Yessss he holed it and lost the match 2/1

My putting is average but not disastrous to my game. Yes I know i could putt better but that's easier said then done
Its just getting to me now, Ill do a good drive, 2nd good shot onto the green and then 2 putt, He will hit a bad drive have to lay up hit is 3rd somewhere on the green then hole some 30ft putt and win the hole cause hes got a shot on it.

Drive for show, putt for doe. I am a bit like your dad, as putting is the best part of my game. I could give you tips, but you say you don't want them. Putting is the single most important part of the game, so practice it more. What's more, find a putter you genuinely feel comfortable with. You will know it when you find it, you don't even have to hit a ball with it.

Putting is the worst part of my game, its also the part of the game i find most boring to practice...so thats why!

I've promised myself that I'll practice it more this season, but im not convinced I will

My trick is putting for a birdie and walking off with a bogey.drives me made.
like already been said I struggle to practice putting(boring) but it's my aim this season to practice it more.Dont hole enough from 5-10 feet range.

Wait till wife is in bed and either put music on or fave tv show then get putter, 3 balls and a 5p piece and practise putting at that for half an hour, times goes quick.

I'll have the tips as my putting has currently gone AWOL! Currently averaging 2.18 putts per hole...(taken from my arcoss app)

I average about 1.6.

1) Make sure the putter you own you are very comfortable with.
2) Align the arrow marks on the ball with the target. Then align the putter line with the arrow on the ball.
3) Ensure your shoulders are aligned with the target.
4) Try and putt square to square, mallet putters will help you do this.
5) Take a practice stroke first looking at the hole
6) Decide whether you putt better with the glove on or off, and stick to it
7) Treat every put like life or death, and use the same routine even if it is a 12 inch put.
8) Always use the same type of ball, as this will very much effect distance

I'm gonna hazard a guess that if you really looked at your own game and were honest with yourself you'd find the real reason he beats you. No matter how good he may be at putting, no-one holes long putts on regular basis. My guess is that you lose because of mistakes you make and not because of his putting.

Yes of course no one holes long putts every hole but when he does which he does more often then most do, its the fact when he does its a such a momentum killer for me.
Makes me try that bit harder which then of course means Im trying to harder and few more mistakes come,
Its not just the putting that beats me, Its what his putting does to me during the match that gets to me, he really does hole so many long putts

This is close to my fix from 2 seasons ago. My putting was getting slowly worse with the icing on the cake being 41 puts in a Saturday roll up. I found a video online and spent 1 hour after work every night that week at the course.

The following Saturday I had 29 putts.

Stick a 2p at 2ft away on a flat part of the green and role 20 consecutive putts over that coin .
Reduce to a 10p and start again
Then reduce to a 5p and start again.

At the point of missing one you reset back to the start, whether that's the last on a 5p or the first on the 2p

Once you have done this go up to 3ft, 4ft and 5ft.

The pressure on the 5p putts is amazing and really forces focus

You get out what you put in

#1 yes

The rest......not so much

I average about 1.6.

Do you average 350 yards from the tee as well?

Sorry, but with an opening comment like that I simply can't take the rest of your post seriously. Look at the European Tour stats. Almost every year the leading putter on tour averages 1.7 putts or more per GIR.

And per GIR is the only stat in relation to putting which matters. If you're missing all 18 greens and then chipping and putting then you may well average less than 1.7 putts per green but that does not necessarily make you a great putter.

This is what happened to me in the medal on Saturday out of nowhere! I usually am around 35 putts but on Saturday i hit 47... I played my best golf up to the green in a long time, hit more GIR than ever and more fairways, my putting cost me - I would have been nett 5 under had I putted like I used to.

I am practicing my putting every night this week using the same method as you but rather than the coins I just use the hole and 5 balls. all 5 in at 2ft, then to 3ft, 4ft, 5ft and so on. Miss one and start again from that distance.

1.6 really? I would not doubt your word but that really does make you a great putter.
