So some of you may know I broke my spine earlier this year and iv played 4 games since returning, iv lost a lot of power but the only thing I could pratice was putting indoors and since my return my putting is great in the four games iv played i have not 3 putt once just solid 2 putts every time But I'm missing a lot of 2-4 foot one putts in fact I can only two putt.

When I was praticing indoors I concentrated on distance control and its now really good but I'm just getting my line an inch or so wrong. My method of pratice was putting up to the wall and making the ball stop 1 inch from it and moving Various distances from the wall to gain control from all distances. I look at the wall when i pratice stroke to visulize the distance and then replicate it for the real thing looking at the ball. My stroke seems very square and feels solid but has anyone got any tips on praticing alignment indoors ?

Sorry for dragging on :)

Good to hear you are on the mend.

On the negative side, you are not missing by an inch. You are missing by over 3 inches - missing be 2 inches would still fall in if the pace as right!

Time to get the coffee mug or glass out and putt into that!

Glad to hear you are on the mend.

Have you tried a putting mirror? They have lines on them to set up with a square putter face and also the reflection means that you can check your head/eye position. Otherwise a shaft or similar pointing along the line next to the ball might help.

Good luck.

You know you love golf when you break your back but can't stop practicing!
Congratulations on the hard work paying off though, great news.

In terms of solutions to direction;
could it be caused by poor alignment? Maybe you are setting up to miss.
If you have a smooth putting stroke it wouldn't be a case of the yips.

I would recommend setting up your alignment with your putter before you set up with your feet. This should help you to align the club to the target line correctly, as possibly you are aligning your feet to the target line (which would make a right handed golfer push the ball to the right).

I would also recommend identifying a spot a couple of inches in front of the ball which you want to roll the ball over. Once you have set up to your putt you can forget about the hole but focus on this spot, making sure you roll the ball over your two inch target.

Finally, don't watch the ball roll to the hole. Keep focussed on the spot that your ball was on. By looking up you move the club off its intended line - I sometimes do this and it can also lead to poor contact with the ball and less distance that you were intending on hitting the ball.

Good luck
