I scored 26 points in a Seniors Stableford this morning. I played pretty well tee-to-green, but missed at least 14 putts of 6 feet or less, including a couple of tiddlers, so could have easily scored 40 points on another day. None of the putts were really that bad, but they all just slid by the hole. If I allowed for a break they went straight, if I hit them straight they took a break! Took me 15 holes before I made an up and down. I normally putt quite well and had scored 34 points the previous day, so not quite sure what I was doing wrong. The greens had been tinned earlier in the week and had been cut and rolled first thing in the morning. They were a little bit bumpier than normal and rather wet after overnight rain, but should have been perfectly playable!

Neutral grip, back and forth!

I suggest watching a few videos, getting the grip right, grab a V-Easy and putt every night to a 5p from 6 feet on the carpet.

You will be holing out in no time!

Try the claw grip - heard someone say that it cures all putting ills

Delc you keep coming on here telling us what a good putter you are

I've just worked out that i took 23 putts for the back nine, which we played first (two tee start) and 17 for the front nine, making a total of 40 putts. Not good, but not terrible either. About 7 more than I normally take.

If you hit the putts at a good pace on the line you picked then you hit good putts. Sometimes good putts don't go in. That being said, you don't score 26pts purely because the putts don't drop, I'd suggest if you're honest with yourself, that you didn't play as well tee to green as you think you did.

I hit 12 out of 14 fairways and 4 out of 18 greens in regulation. The latter doesn't sound that good, but the course was rather wet and playing quite long, with little run on the ground. I was generally getting close to the green in regulation, chipping close to the hole and then missing the putt! I three putted 2 of the GIR holes from no great distance. Also struggled a bit with wet sand in the bunkers and chipping out of wet rough. :(

If they just slid by then doesn't sound too terminal i.e the weight was right and line pretty much ok

Damp or tinned (esp both) is always going to throw out the level of break even without thinking about nap

How much time did you spend sussing out the days conditions on the practice green pre-round and had that also been tinned?

I spent a few minutes on the practice green, which had also been tinned, before I went out and seemed to be putting OK.

Hitting 4 greens in reg

I'll be practising trying to hit them first

As I say time of year greens won't be great so don't get down about it

Also greens had been tinned surely can't expect your best putting day on them

I am a fairly short hitting senior golfer who plays on a fairly long course, which was playing even longer than normal on the day due to wetness. I generally have to rely on making a few up and downs to make a good score, but that wasn't happening due to all the missed putts. I made only one up and down all day! :(
