Having just moved house, I am without my Augusta-like hallway carpet which I used to practice putting on. The new house has no suitable flooring, apart from in the cellar, which I'm thinking would be ideal to lay a putting mat on, as it's a hard stone floor. Now, I know many of the mats available are tosh and nothing but a bit of creased and crumpled felt, but what say you forumers to the mat on the link?

It has Callaways name attached (so I'm hoping for reasonable quality) and also a non slip underneath which will hopefully hold it steady an prevent creasing.

Is it worth a punt for my man-cave?

I loathe them.........nothing like real putting....

others might disagree and down to each person but what will you gain from putting the same 6 feet strip time after time:lol:

Maybe to just practice the stroke though? Also, it gives me something to do when the wife is watching Sex & The City, which she is often prone to do.

To be honest for the first 10,000 putts I agree with you... but if you use it like a machine then you'll benefit. A few putts here and there never did anything for anyone. Make 300 putts in a row on your mat and you're halfway to learning a decent stroke.

I never really found a mat that replicates the real green and while I understand totally about honing a stroke I just don't feel I get any benefit and can't get motivated about working on it

In temrs of honing a repeatable putting stroke it doesnt matter what you putt on, if you are trying to putt for pace then it is critically important

I have a putting mat that is glued to some stiff cardboard and lives in my garage and i can putt away for an hour or so quite happilly and it helps me to get a consistent stroke i can use on the course

I need to however go to the course to get the pace but pick that up fairly quickly

its in the mind putting if you think it will help then it most probably will, if you think they are tosh you wont put the effort in to make it work

just my 2p
