I meant to post about this at the time but I completely forgot until today!!

There is a tip in this months mag to place 3 clubs around 3 sides of the hole, about 2ft from said hole and the drill is to putt your ball and not to touch any of the 3 clubs (for those who havent read the mag I hope this makes sense!!)

Now, is it just me being cynical, or is this a complete waste of time unless you play on the same greens on the same course day in/day out?

You could go to a course on Monday and practice this drill, get your length just about perfect and then go to a different course on Tuesday to play where the greens are slower/faster and your exercise you completed the day before is now completely useless?

Or am I completely missing the point? :D

Keef: I would bet that most of us Do play the same home course for the vast majority of the time, I know I do.

Good drill I would have thought, altho I arent known for my putting practice !

I can see the point in that situation, but then if you played the same course week in/week out and still needed to do that drill, there is something seriously wrong with you i'd say! lol

Maybe when I get round to joining a club it will benefit me, however as i'm still a loose cannon, a wandering star, a loner....i'm sure you get the drift....I dont see much point in doing it.

I can see it being a good drill if you do it before play. We have great greens, but even they can vary from week to week, so I can only see the benifit if it's done before play.

Its a good drill to practice. It can be done on any practice green too. Assuming the practice green where you are going to play is of a similar pace to the greens on the course you are going to play.

Its a drill I've done with my pro before. Its a fairly useful drill, though there are others he has gone through with me I think are probably more useful imho.

I must confess that this drill did leap out of the magazine at me. My first thought was what will the game behind say when they reach me and find me laying clubs around the hole for a practice? I don't know many clubs which have practice facilities which will enable some of the drills I read in the magazine. :D

This is an excellent drill and not just for the greens you are about to play on. It teaches you to make a strong stroke that always gets to the hole without screaming past. Great for developing touch and you just move closer/farther away to develop range. Can't understand why people don't get it...unless they've never tried it?

Give yourself 1pt for a putt that gets in the gate, 2pts for holing it and -1pt for coming up short or hitting the gate and set yourself scoring targets. Works a treat.
