I currently use a ping craz-e putter, and having played a few rounds recently and worked out my putts per round..I can honestly say I can't putt! Averaging 38-40 putts a round is killing my scores!

My question is, has anyone changed putter and it improved their scored dramatically?

I am considering going to a more traditional putter to help me keep everything in line and on line!

Cheers

2 ball made an instant change, recent change to my through swing (actually having one now) has made a similarly big difference to long putts.

jcubs, as with all other clubs the best thing you can do is have a lesson. I had a putting lesson and now I am so confident with the putter. I reckon I have cut off about 6-8 putts per round.

If you had some bunch of junk putter I'd say you might benefit from a new one but the money would be much better spent on a lesson.

Had a short "on the course" lesson, of which about 10 minutes was putting, and it changed everything. My putting (and my confidence in my putting) has improved dramatically, same stick, same dingbat in control of it, totally different posture, swing, tempo, alignment, line, roll....

Much better results!

I cut my putter down from 34" to 31" and it made an enormous improvement I could get right over the ball with comfort. I am only 5'7" tall.

Ask Region3 about putters. Could just be a coincidence with his form at the moment. But the lad is scoring very well and has just had a bit of a putter fitting.

He also had a putting lesson recently.
A V-Good teacher I've heard :D

Yes. Went from having the yips with a blade putter to be cured, literally, overnight with a 2 ball putter! :)

Sometimes it's useful to get a new putter, been thru putting frustration the last year, decided to get a new putter and get fitted for one, that ensures it's right for you and a small lesson at the same time as the pro will spot anything obvious.
A lot is in the head and puttings all about confidence and my new putter inspires confidence plus I know it's fitted for me increasing my confidence!
Will let you know how it goes ;)

Yep. Best 2 things you can do for your putting if you think you're struggling on the greens. Ideally both together imo so one doesn't affect the other adversely.

I was 9.9 when I had a lesson. Over the next 6 weeks came down to 9.4
Not massive revelations but I apparently had a half decent putting stroke to start with.
A couple of very valuable pointers though that have helped a lot.

I then had a putter fitting and in the 4 weeks since that I've come down to 8.4

If you do have a fitting, find someone you can trust then totally rely on their judgement (with your input).

I 'thought' I liked short (32") bladed putters with a hard (or none) insert.
I ended up with a 34" mallet with a very soft insert.

I believe the lesson and fitting between them have knocked 3 or 4 shots off my game.

You can hit the ball like a reet spanner from tee to green but provided you get somewhere near in regulation and have a good short game it's not hard to go round in low 80's.

seeing as your the putting guru :D how much is putting down to actual technique, seems the most frustrating part of the game, could be the fact that you could have a sound putting stroke but just cant read the greens properly, havent come accross a putter yet that doesnt roll the ball straight if hit properly, whats your thoughts, from a teachers veiw ??

They say putting is easy.
Find the right line and pace and you will hole it.
Unfortunately, you may have the line and pace but if you dont start the putt on line consistently, you will miss.
If you hit the line, your pace could be off and you'll miss.
If you can control your pace and line consistently you will hole more putts and that needs good technique.
Technique that starts the putt on the line you have chosen with the pace you need takes practice.

Why do you think the tour players spend hours on the putting greens?

Get a putting lesson. I got one a couple of years ago and it really made a difference, Got everything lined up at address, got my grip sorted and it gave me so much confidence. Then keep working. Bob has a good piece of kit that could help you keep the stroke grooved I believe but he's far to modest to mention it by name.

Worst idea I've heard in years. If you can't putt with a craz-e or similar mallet-type, there's only 1 thing for it.
Practise.
