Putters, plain metal or insert faces?

10 years with the original 2 ball and now one month into using a new Scotty Cameron X5 and I can hardly tell the difference.

I love milled putters and was sad to sell my Scotty but I now have a Ping TR Anser and it's wonderful to putt with. If money was no object though I'd have one of the Scotty Cameron he release a while ago. The black heads with the deep milled face - they were lovely but out of my price range

how does an insert make the hole feel bigger, it doesnt make the ball go any straighter

Believe you may have missed the subtle reason for the quote mate - bigger holes

I've got an Odyssey White Steel putter which has a steel insert in the polymer insert.

I'm not sure if the steel insert is fixed to the putter head or held within the polymer, anybody know?

I have two Scottys and depending on the greens I use one or the other, for fast greens in the summer I use the Tel3 where the feel is much better, for slow greens (usually early in the year) where you have to really hit the ball its the Prototype which is a milled SS face. I much prefer to use the Tel3 all year to be honest but its not as good on slow greens, don't ask me why as I couldn't hazard a guess.

So the answer to the question is "insert face" for me.

To be honest once the putter is behind the face you can't see the insert or milled face. I don't think milled or insert gives me more confidence in itself. That comes from a good stroke and a putter that suits
