I only have the one putter, it's an Odyssey White Hot XG, sometimes i get on with it, others i find it difficult to align it properly. Its alignment aid consists of three small red dots placed very close together.

I like the feel of the putter and the weight is spot on. I also like the centre shaft, and i love the grip. Due to the alignment aid being quite poor and difficult to use though, i think it costs me shots.

Has anyone found any improvements moving from a putter like this to a putter with a more prominent line indicator?

Do all the White Hot XG putter feel the same as far as head weight etc goes?

If you love everything else about the putter then I would try this instead:

Draw a line around the equator of the ball using one of the "line em up" gadgets. Set your ball down with this line @ 90* to the direction you want the putt to start on. Then place the blade in behind the ball parallel to the line, the poor allingnment aid becomes redundant as the putter face is then you reference point.

I'd echo the above post. I used to have a no 7 (fangs)before I changed to my scotty and I dont find one easy than the other to line up.

But I did start drawing said lines on my ball and lining them up on the path I want to start the putt on. this has helped to shave shots off alot and I find I am rarely far out with the putts.

The theory is it's dfficult to line up a round ball and a straight line (putter face) so they have the 2 round shapes so you can line up the ball to the round shapes so you have in affect 3 balls all lined up together.

bob, i've never really understood how having two big white blobs on top of your club can help with alignment. do they really work???

I thought this until the other day when I picked one up in the shop and gave it a little go. I was really supprised at how easy it was to visualise the putt line with the ball and two big white blobs behind it.

It didnt buy it cos Im skint, but I really wanted to!

after all of this, i'm going to do two things...

• i'm going to, with the aid of a red sharpie and set square, draw a line on the top of my putter.

• start shopping around for a new putter - just because i want to. At least i know what i'm after :)

I've got a massive white line on my Yes putter. The massive line clinched the sale for me after really struggling to line up a blade-type putter. So, I can say a big line worked wonders for me. ;)

in fact... i just had a better idea. my brother is a techie teacher and has milling machines in his classroom. I'll draw a line on it and get him to mill it out a mm or so deep and then get some proper paint in the line. Much more pro looking :)

Ive got a 2Ball Odyssey too, but mine has a nice black line straight thru the centre of the 2 Balls too, which Makes it a cinch to line up, I like it.

Lots of people ask how I put the line on, but thats how I bought it.....

Like this.....

Search around, sure you'll find one....

Yes, and if we are going to get all anorak-d out about this, a black line is far more accurate.

(Really Dave? is this another of your tall stories?)

At my putter fitting/lesson/video my pro used a laser to test my reading of putts. The first thing we discovered was that I aimed left ALL the time. The second thing was that once I was using a ball with a black line (mark 'em up thing), I was far straighter. The third thing was that with my Monza Corsa lined up to the black line on the ball I was even more accurate than using a 2-ball odyssey. Apparently, it's all about how your brain/eyes work....if they see three balls they're are going to be more accurate than one ball and a small alignment aid (obviously :)) but it they see a black line on the ball aligned to a black line alignment aid on the putter.....that's the gold standard.
Bull or not? Well, if you trust a laser and a Yes! trained putter fitter, then probably true.

I have one of those gadgets for marking my balls up... time to start using it me finks!

I would recommend you give it a try. I'm fighting it (coz I think it's time consuming and a bit overkill) but I don't miss many short ones. If I do, it's the read more than a dodgy stroke.

I've got one of those and I hate it. Not that it doesn't work, I just can't stand my ball having a dirty great line on it.

I use the <tour-b330s> logo on the ball and it works well enough for me.
