Lots of putters come with a 35 inch shaft these days, but I tried one the other day that was only 33 inches, but felt very comfortable and I felt I could "Get over" it easier.

Are there any advantages to having a slightly shorter putter, or is it all down to personal feel

In 5 ft 11 tall and 14 stone, if that makes any difference

It's one of the easiest jobs to cut a few inches off a putter and if you dont like it you can have it put back to it's original length.
Ask your pro for his advice on what's suitable for you

I think most of it is down to personal preference.
Thinking of cutting the Scotty down already...???
If you do, you may need to add weight to the head. There are some "screws"on the sole of the Red X. Undo them and stick a couple of coins in to make up the weight.

Hey bob, does it change the swing weight or anything much and can you save the grip?

being 6 ft 2 i bought a 36 inch putter thinking that would suit me, but like you preferred to lean over a bit more and had some length cut off it. I have recently started putting better and my stance now means I am holding it near the end of the grip. Thinking about getting it lengthened, maybe i should get and adjustable length of shaft lol

Some say it changes the balance and can ruin the putter but I've never had a problem with the putters I've shortened for people.
And your pro will be able to save the grip.

The only hard and fast rule regarding putter length is does the length feel right for you. If its too long and you like the putter then shorten it, you wont detect the 1 point swing weight change. The only people who advocate having them professionally shortened is those with skin in it!

I have just cut my Corza Ghost putter down to 31" and it feels great, I am only 5'7" tall and can now get right over the ball . I do not find any difference in the swing weight.
:) :)

mines is 33.5" fitted by ping at st andrews, couldnt reall ytell you if it has altered the blalance or weight of it but it can put the ball in the hole. its the only club in my bag that hasnt been changed in the 4 years iv been playing
