Anyone had a putter fitting ?

Bought nice putter off e-bay (one like I used to have 20+ years ago as coming back to this great game) and it is a strong part of my game but just a thought before spending on the Driver, Clubs etc just thought I would start with the most used club in the bag?

Thoughts would be appreciated as we have a fitting centre at Manchester.

Hit Em Straight ...... ish

Theres been a few, pretty sure gareth went to clubhouse to be fitted and IIRC there was someone went to Moor Allerton (Tsped?)and Manchester performance centre (LB?)

I was fitted by an Pro from AG courtesy of GM.

Turns out I had an arc in my putting stroke,so a mallet headed putter was more suitable.
Also went down to a 34 inch from 35.
One thing it has done is given me confidence im using the right tool for the job.
I was also very dodgy from short range,I would say now im much better.
Of course I have off days[hey Swinger],however I would say more good than bad.
I would definitely give it a lot of thought, and I would presume it would be free if you bought
a putter.

I had a putter fitting locally with Lee Porter at Hylands Golf Complex. It has made a huge difference to my putting.

He confirmed I had the right putter head but it needed increased loft (I apparently do a forward press like Mickelson), shortened from 34" to 32", flattened so it sits flush at address and finally a SuperStroke grip to make sure my wrists were less active.

It's certainly something I would (and have) recommend to other people. 2 of my playing partners booked up after me and feel the same as I do.

Hope this helps.

I had a putter fitting at Hopwood in Manchester.== it was very informative as to my stroke what type of putter I needed and that you do need to practice this part of your game as much as the long game. Its worth it just for confidence as you will come out with a putter that suits your game.

I certainly did.

Peter fitted me for my Scotty Cameron.

Excellent choice of putters, great service and a good fitting.

I still have the putter in the bag after 2 whole years

Never had a putter fitting but have simply found a putter I like the look of at address and then made little adjustments to the way I stroke the ball to get the best results.
For me that seems the easiest and best way to do I as it is far easier to change your putting stroke than it would be to change your full swing, for example

just but soon to be replaced by a junior donnay

In all fairness, I've found myself looking at other putters of late. Even tried the Ping TR range, including the Senita B on Wednesday.

The only thing this highlighted to me was I prefer the Ping PP58 full cord grip to my Iomic

I had my putter built for me a couple of months back.
It's given me more confidence that I've got the right piece of kit. Some positive signs but early days.
Still wouldn't say I could putt especially from within 3 feet!!!:D

Yip, twas me. The half fitting was great, but as I was blathering on too much, I only left about 3.5 minutes to pick an actual putter. Scott at manchester Gc (Hopwood) is a good lad, and give me all the specs and type of putter I should go with. Sadly I had to try ones out separately, though, so make sure you leave enough time. They have about 70 putters there to try in the fitting centre also.

Think I'm going to have to try a putter fitting, as mine seems to be on a rapidly downhill spiral (plus it wasn't too good to start with!) Had my Odyssey 2-ball putter for about 8 years now (could be the insert that's the problem?) And haven't tried any other putters in that time, so I'm really interested in what they suggest is right for me.
Am I right in thinking they suggest a type of putter that would suit you, then it's up to you to chose the exact model that feels right?

Haven't you done this the wrong way around? Surely finding what type of putter your suitable for is part is the fitting process? Have you not just jeopardised the process by forcing it around a specific putter?

Pete, with my fitting, it was things like:-

1. ideal length
2. face balanced or counter balanced
3. degrees of loft
4. extra 100 grammes of weight
5. something else-cant remember

At Manchester gc, its all done on video, computer etc

That'll be the SAM Puttlab.

100 gms extra weight is a lot btw. At least head weight. Typically, 10gms head weight makes quite a difference.

@OP. Does seem to be a bit arse-about-face, but if you know you like the feel of a particular type, then getting it adjusted to you isn't too bad. It can make a huge difference, and considering the amount of times you use it in a given round, getting the 'best fit' seems pretty obvious!

Maybe I hadn't had my weetabix that morning.

I think the 100g ended up going in the shaft, as they done the fitting as a favour for the pro at Preston on my behalf.

The pro at preston done this thing were you put the 100g in the shaft with sand or something.
