Putter Advice

I like my Putter and putt reasonable well with it.
My problem is there are no guide marks on it to show the centre of the face.
So my question is, i want to put a mark on the top of the putter to show were the center is
but can I just use a marker pen does it have to be a permenent mark IE a grove cut in the top.
Which ever way I can do it but would like to know which best or allowed. Thanks.

You can do whatever you like as long as it's not during a round. I remember some pro's who used the 2 ball putter on tour drawing a line down the centre of the "2 balls" to aid alignment. Just be wary that if you use marker pen you can't re-draw it on during a round as you are altering it's playing characteristics during the round.
