What has been your best golfing buy of the year? I have had a fair few duff purchases this year but having a driver properly fitted has added a whole new dimension to my game and turned one of the worst aspects into one of my best. Money spent on an on course lesson has also given me some good insights into course management.

Defo for me is my Wilson Staff Dd6 10 degree stiff shaft driver, for the first time ever i hit the back wall at my driving range with a decent clunk, its 270 yards away, bit of a fluke drive but im counting it, I usually hit the ball about 250-270 consistently but not necessarily straight.

Murph youre going to have to get a driver pose with them things on! haha
My best buy has to be my vokey spinmmill 56deg, its the club ive seen most improvement with and I can rely on it to get me out of some sticky situations. Id recommend it to anyone. I am seriously considering junking my regular pw from my rac lt's for a 48/50 deg similar one.

It would be too easy to say my new driver...a custom fit Titleist 907 D1....because I love it... but I know I'll have off days with it.

So I'll actually say my new golf jumper which has a windstopper lining. It has allowed me to play in weather I'd not even consider playing golf in before! Not cheap but worth every penny.

I have to agree with Boabski. Our old course had fantastic facilities but a very poor course but have now opted for a James Braid course with 'adequate' facilities. I also love my Odyssey No. 7 putter. The forst putter I have ever paid full price for but I would have paid DOUBLE.

My Driver, Putter and Irons (see sig) were a pleasure to purchase and have greatly increased my confidence. Still need more time out on the course to feel the full benefits. Roll on the warmer weather...

Are all these fire engines zipping about Edinburgh lookimg for your birthday cake?

Must have been a bummer as a kid what with Christmas only four days after your birthday.

All the best.

Thanks, DCB.

I don't have the breath for a birthday cake any more so I'm sitting here with a Jack Daniels and Coke instead! Decadent at this time of day, I know, but....

Now to play with all my new golfing pressies!

Cheers and beers

Mine was a Pinfire Patriot putter, had been struggling with every kind of mallet, decided to try something very simple and this putter was so hot when I got it. On the back of holing lots of putts with this I concluded that I don't actually need a 'line em up' big headed mallet thing, I just needed to find the correct putter in a traditional heel-toe style and put a smooth swing on it. I have since changed the Pinfire for a Taylor Made Daytona 1 putter which is similar in weight and design and is superb. I got from 6.1 to 4.6 in no time this summer just by holing some putts.

Mizuno Driver (second hand bargain) great feel. My distance has increased at last.
Closely followed by custom fit Callaway X20s. Cost me arm and leg, but they feel gorgeous, (though I did wait until I had started hitting my irons half decent BEFORE I took thE plunge).
in short - replacing beginner's sticks with some decent equipment!

Well, i got a bit giddy after hitting my new Cleveland driver so well and have plumped for a new set of irons. I love my MP60's but convinced myself i needed something a bit more forgiving.

I have picked up some Macgregor Forged M685's - £200 at DG, with rifle shafts . Hit them on the range last night and I get a little more distance and a higher ball flight as well. First round tomorrow with them. . . . watch this space

My best buy is a Senior Cobra Baffler DWS which I got on eBay from a company in the US. It has just the right swing weight and clubhead feel for me. I have hit one or two shots exactly as I wanted them with this beauty. I am now awaiting a new 18* hybrid from 14clubs.com which is intended to match the 23* Cobra. Hope it does.
