Seems like I've been waiting ages to post this!
My oldest lad (16) started playing a bit more seriously last year so we got him a handicap and entered a few comps. His first HC was 45 (juniors can go up to 54 now apparently) which although high, I thought would come down quickly. Didn't happen last season, he just couldn't seem to 'click', and did the usual youngster thing of constantly taking on shots he had no chance of pulling off and filling his card with 8's and 9's.
However, we played in our Easter stableford this morning, and it would seem finally heeded everyones advice. Played some great golf, kept the ball in play for the best part of the round, and ended up with a very respectable 41 points, with two blobs. But for those blobs and a couple of silly missed short putts it could easily have been high 40's.
Hopefully now he's seen the light and got a bit of confidence that HC will start to tumble!

Thats great to hear Paul -

Great news. Confidence breeds confidence and hopefully once he sees the handicap tumbling he'll understand the logic of percentage play, in comps at least. After all it's not golf if you don't take the on in a hundred shot on every now and then.. just not with a card in the pocket

It's wonderful when they start getting into the game properly.
Two of my kids play and the youngest has been getting better and better over the winter. Today we played the bunny hop and she was out with one of the seniors and the club captain. She played really well and is now more eager to play more.

Being recently appointed club mens captain, and also Junior organiser (glutton for punishment!!) I watch Juniors almost daily.. Both my boys play, and started at 54, one is now 40 and the other 50, and they are loving it.

We recently held a Junior/adult roll up and was a roaring success, and both the juniors and adults commented how well it went.

Juniors are the lifeblood of any club, and ANY adult encouragement is instrumental in their progression.

Funny you should put this up, I nearly did exactly the same thing earlier on. Great news about your son. I hope he gets the bug and really gets stuck in

I was messing about with my daughter in the garden earlier on and caught a couple of snaps. She's 4 in May and this is her swing:

Proud dad :)

Great news hopefully both of your young ones keep on enjoying the game, my son has given up im afraid and has 0 interest in anything other than the xbox these days....

My stepson was with me in the golf shop last week and asked to try hitting a ball. Got the club fitter to give him a club and let him have a rip, not as bad as I thought, but at 4'1 I wasn't expecting too much. Grabbed him a 9i to use and he had a go at the range last week, loved it and keeps bugging me to take him again.

that's great to hear. Good to see younger players coming on so well! Hopefully he will keep on learning and see his handicap tumble.

Finally got the results in, and he won! One question though, par and css were both 69 and he shot 40 points, so 5 under? He's only been cut one shot, is that right? I thought juniors were cut higher than that?

Played with my lad today for the first time in a couple of years. He still has tyrets.
played on the worst course in Notts. Had a beer after. Nice bonding session mixed with rubbish golf.

Most proud of Spear-Chucker minor (9) today who went out with Grandpa and scored three bogies during his 9 holes - never done that before :)
