Hola

Just picked up a set of new clubs yesterday.....

Does any one use the iron head covers you can get or are they a waste of money and a gimmick????

Cheers

Some swear by them, especially if they have forged irons which chip easily.
Others will swear they are the devils work.

I'd say whatever tugs your rug :D

Forged irons do need covers in my opinion if you want them to look well for more than a few months. Castle Bay clear silicon covers are pretty good (I use them). If you have run of the mill cast clubs though it isnt anywhere near the same issue so wouldnt bother.

I have recently bought a set of forged clubs and my son bought me some head covers. They certainly protect the clubs but can be a nuiscance both for taking off and putting back on but also where you've left them during the shot - maybe it's cos I'm getting old!I am still using them but the jury is out on this one.

Chris, I set mine on top of the rest of the irons/putter, that way it doesnt get lost, I wouldnt go so far as to tie them all together! The good this is that they cover the entire clubhead and wont wear through like neoprene.

I use the same ones Brendy and usually lay it on the handle of my Hillbilly trolley but after 12 years playing without covers I sometimes forget to put it back on and march off leaving the headcover where it fell. I've always retrieved it so far though!

A bit of bag chatter is the least of your worries. It's the stones under the soil and in bunkers, rough etc that cause the damage. I've never bothered and have always just cleaned regulary. At the end of the day clubs are like cars and once bought their value diminishes. Trade in will only get you what the shop/pro minimum price wether they have had covers on or not. In the end it's up to you though.

Value doesnt upset me DB, its the shiney new look. I like to try to keep most of my possessions looking how they left the factory. I dislike the whole bag chattered to death look as it really detracts from them.

Same for me as well. I try to look after them and have only had about 12 sets of clubs in all the years that I've played - thats about 13 years in all!

Barely enough time to get them unwrapped in some cases!

I know both my 9i and PW have a little chip on the sole now  :(
But I do use covers but maybe left it a little late, I use the cheapo neoprene covers and they fit in your pocket handy enough!

I dont mind my clubs looking a bit weathered, gives them some character.

I tried some iron covers on a set of mizuno pro IIs years ago, they lasted about a month. pain in the backside.

They do them with club names on or plain. Cheap and worth using even if it is to just stop the noisey rattle as you walk around. Just make sure you take them off at home if it's been wet as your clubs may get small rust spots.

Had to laugh at the description "Original packing removed, environmental friendly packing applied" 2 sets of packing = enviro friendly :D :D :D :D

If I'd bought my irons new, I'd probably consider iron covers, but as they were inexpensive and second hand, I'm not too worried about a bit of bag clatter. I like to think of it as "character" :D

i had them when i got my first decent set didnt last long tho
was a PITA taking them off & putting back on

i do have a very cheap neoprene set on my 2nd set of irons while theyre in the old bag waiting til i eventually switch over to them so they dont get damaged

dont think i'll ever use protection again ,on my clubs in my playing bag

I use the same type but callaway branded. I simply cant stand bag clatter. I carry and enjoy walking in silence. They may look after my clubs a little more, but thats not why i got them.
