Do they think they're above shouting "FORE", the amount of professional golfers who put it into the crowd and don't shout anything disgusts me, infact it makes my blood boil.

The speed of the ball on impact could easily kill someone yet so many of these numpties are too ignorant to shout!

Thoughts????!!!!

I couldn't agree more!

I hate shouting fore because I feel ashamed that I've hit a shot so poorly it may hit someone, but I still call it.

In defence, there drives probably goin 300 yards most of which is carry, would a crowd really hear them shout FORE from that distance?

Not excusing it because if they shout loud and the person doesn't hear thats not as bad if they get hit!

The one just then was ridiculous (Aiken?) - could see that going into the crowd all the way down the shot and just stood there hoping a seagull would fly past and knock it onto the green. The lad it hit didnt really seem to see it coming - could have been nastier than it ws

They have marshalls waving direction boards, they also have 1000's of spectators who could say "watch out!". The pros don't shout out because there's probably someone on the putting green 20 feet away putting for a potential $1,000,000 if they make enough birdies. Totally understandable.

Fortunately it ended all smiles from the lad. He got Aiken's ball. Could have been much worse.
Aiken did apologise to the lad, but a shout or gesture would have helped.
Can't the caddies shout if it's beneath the pros to holler?

YES absolutely they should

but TBH if your going and spectating a tournament you have to expect it to some extent coming towards you

as i was lucky enough to be almost hit with a Seve drive at Wentworth back in the Suntory world matchplay days with no fore shouted

did it bother me? no not for a second

lets face it if your in a crowd even if you havent watched the ball flight pretty much someone else close to you has and will give a warning

gotta take your own safety into your own hands ppl, You cant just walk around completely oblivious....Spectating golf is not without risk!

As much as it pains me, I do tend to agree with my pine tree loving friend
:D :D :D :D :D ;)

Oh but it's fine for all the fans to shout WHOOOOO Great drive Tiger after he hits it???

Sorry mate that is tosh of the highest order, golfers grow up hearing FORE! being shouted, it wouldn't put anyone off from 400+ yrds.I think they are too far up their own bums to admit to hitting a howler that's all.

So if Tiger did shout "fore", you would hear him over all the racket????

Probably not but shouldn't stop him shouting it.

Same as if I hit a shot shouted FORE and the bloke it was aiming for didn't hear it. I've done my bit!?

As much as it pains me I have to agree with my short hitting friend.

Who's going to hear when you're standing in a crowd 350yrds from the guy who's shouting FORE at the top of his lungs?

3 people on a tee and someone walking their dog is a BIT different don't you think???

I know what you mean Justone mate, but for spectators of the sport on TV shouldn't they be showing Golfing etiquette?

I can think of numerous occasions where my playing partners or I have been nearly hit all because the bloke who hit it didn't shout.

What harm is there in shouting???

Its simple, they don't shout as they hope it hits a spectator to stop it going further into the crap. They also hope that if it does hit a spectator then they can claim relief or get a better lie due to the rough being trampled down. Or even better a lucky bounce off of someone back onto the fairway.

Quite a shocking attitude but that came from a player on Tour! Nice way to treat the peole who come to watch!

Was watching tiger earliar and he hit a bad drive he did say fore (not shout) but he pointed with his club and was waving it to the right to indicate that was where it was going. I think players should be shout fore or give some kind of indication as well as the stewards behind them pointing which way it is going.

Are you for real?

Perhaps the kid was talking to his dad and didn't see the guy hit. If he had shouted then there would have been others shouting and I am sure the father would have shielded his son. To remove the responsibility from the golfer is stupid. I guess you would settle for an autograph done by his caddy coz he cant be arsed.
