I'm playing in our first medal this year on Sunday, usual 8 am shotgun start, however for the first time I'm starting on the 1st, so quite a few more pairs of eyes than usual watching! Think I might use my putter, just to be safe!:o

The strangest thing but I'm not bothered being the first off the tee with spectators at my club as I know you can get away with murder as long as the ball gets airborne.

It's playing at a strange course with the north east lads that buckles my legs. We played cleveland GC for our march meet, I was second off the par3 1st (elevated) with about 16 lads watching on. Tugged the first 5 iron left OOB the duffed the second off the tee box to the right. I was absolutely gutted, even after a cracking 8 iron onto the green

We weren't laughing at the shots mate - it was the pink shirt!!

I feel your pain I have to take an aggressive line over trees or I'd run out of grass and end up o.b, this gets inherently more difficult with people stood around and your having to wait for the green to clear. I've considered an iron but to avoid a fw bunker I'd leave myself 150......annoying well designed hole.

It's just another tee shot try not to build it into anything more,
There can't be anymore eyes watching another than maybe the pro if he can see from the shop everyone else will be out on the course.

Do clubs usually have non qualifier stroke play competitions with a shot gun start? Or are they usually points based?

Just wondering as all the ones I have played have been stableford based singles, pairs, betterball, A/S, etc etc etc... never strokeplay!

my club tried it for the monthly medal SB, went down like a lead balloon so they have reverted back for medal but stableford is staying as drawn groups and shotgun... I hate it tbh

as for 1st tee nerves dont try and leather it, just a nice easy swing or even take a reduced 3/4 backswing. You'll be fine fella

I've played 2 comps this week and both times my legs felt they might buckle on the 1st tee! Final thought before I took the club back was "breathe" and it felt like the tension eased just a tad and actually nailed the shot both times...

All done. Stood up on the tee, usual routine, blanked everyone out, nice easy swing, and tanked it nicely down the right side of the fairway. Lovely. What a shame the following 96 shots weren't as good!:D

On the plus side I won the pot in the raffle, so that's dinner and enough beer to forget the round sorted!

Good man! On recent form I've started to feel first tee gutters..... Don't like it
