Proof we are both normal people!- SyR and SB at SWGC

So today SyR and I had a nice little meet up. Got some pics too but as we were paired up with some other members so we felt it best not to whip the camera out on the course (and it was on the wrong setting so the flash didn't work well when we did use it).

The course was in great condition, all but two greens were running well, the others were a little soggy and it showed as everyone chipped well shy.

Round started well with SyR sending it low, short and left . We had a good little matchplay battle through 12 holes until I collapsed with two 7s on 13 and 14, after two significant drives, one skied and one down a massive (non animal) hole. The par I managed to get on the 15th was matched by SyR, quite some achievement for his first time out as it took me 5 months to par that one. That half pretty much put me out the match, was all but over when SyR went dormie two with us sharing 5s after both getting to the fringe in two. SyR then won it on the short par 3 17th with a good 3 after hitting it to the back of the green, I missed from about 4 feet to end the match 3&1.

I was happy, hit 9 out of 14 fairways and averaged around 240-250 off the tee with two measuring in at over 270. Sadly my game between 20 and 140 yards was dreadful and cost me about 5 shots.

We both putted and chipped well, but neither holing anything longer than 6 feet, I had a case of the lips (not yips) on the longer ones, occurring on no less than four occasions from well over 6 feet!

SyR was brilliant all day, at scrambling and approach play, after probably hitting 3/11 fairways he shot a magnificent 86 to my 95.

Well done SyR, I had a great day and I look forward to the next forum meets and games we play in.

Next time we will do more pics, hopefully we can make it a 4 ball so someone has time to snap while the others play. We had very little time as there was no group in front and our playing partners were not holing out.

Thanks to Tom (scienceboy), I really enjoyed today. I'll post a review later in the reviews section, but have to say the course was in very nice condition considering the winter we've had.
It's a fairly long course and good course management is crucial as there are some well placed bunkers and hazards.
Although I was not so good off the tee, I scrambled well to keep my score down. Tom drove very well, consistently finding the fairway. His putting was very smooth too. He's just started on a new swing with his pro and I think once it beds in, his handicap will tumble.

We had a very close matchplay going for the first 11 holes and then I managed to creep ahead with some steady golf on the back 9. With Tom just off the green on the par 3 17, my tee shot looked 'all over it' until it landed some 15-20 yards past on the back edge. My putt down to the lower tier was on line but surprisingly pulled up short on the down slope. Thankfully the 5 foot putt rolled home to end the game 3 and 1.

Thanks again to Tom for inviting me to his course. It was a very fun day and I look forward to future meets.

(p.s. I think your 270 yard drives today translate nearer to at least 310 yards on this forum)

Sounds like you both had a good day and hit some decent shots each which is always the thing that gets us back for more. The course sounds like it coped with all the rain pretty well as mine did today. Most of our casual water from yesterday had gone as had all the puddles in the bunkers. Look forward to hearing about the rematch
