The head gardener is hopping about on the red button and I think the general mood is.

Albert Hall...same old boring old rubbish year after year.
Belfast Titanic slipway..... having a singing party.
Glasgow Green....having a singing and dancing party with Alfie Bowe performing Elvis classics.

The walker cups on live, take command of the remote- USA are always good in the singles- Ryder Cup, Walker cup makes no difference

The last night of the proms is not representative of the rest of the proms season that precedes it. Please don't rubbish the world's biggest music festival based on what happens on the last night. I can't stand the last night, but there is so much top class music and musicality during the rest of the season; it deserves a far bigger audience listening with open minds, rather than suffering from the ignorance and bigotry that form a lot of people's opinions about good music.

Great post (apart from the 'bigotry' comment- please explain).

I love the proms, particularly the piano concertos (Chopin freak here). Perfect weekend viewing.

Last night of the proms is complete traditional rubbish. It's a bit like having cranberry sauce at Christmas; it happens every year but no one bothers with it.

God how I laughed my socks off reading this post. Please don't take this the wrong way but are you not displaying the same ignorance and bigotry...? Good music is in the ear of the beholder. I like the majority of the proms, inc the last night. I accept it for what it is, and enjoy the energy and enthusiasm that goes with it. But just because someone else prefers their toast done a little darker, I wouldn't call them ignorant or bigoted. Freedom of choice, especially in something so subjective...

I loved the conductors closing comments, she was a feisty lady.

Music is music and I don't have much time for folk with tunnel ''vision'' or classical snobs.

Gershwin, Bernstein and John Barry have all produced masterpieces that some look down their noses at.

The Scottish Orchestra were playing a lovely piece that I struggled to recognise, finally nailed it as a Capercaillie modern 'folk' song.

The last night is not symbolic of what proms season is about. Think of it as a way of getting the wider public engaged in what is a category of music that is very stereotyped. I know my dear old mum and dad considered it essential viewing and while I like the spectacle it doesn't float my boat.
