Following on from the wedges thread, do the pros use one set of wedges say for the Open Championship with its hard fairways, and another set for some American target golf?
Just curious.

I wouldn't have thought so, I would expect they have the wedges hand ground exactley as they like them, and every wedge they use all season will be the same wedge play is all about consistency.

Obviously there may be pros who tinker but wedges are to important to mess with

I would think they'd play the same wedges no matter what. Especially as these are their scoring/money clubs. They may change their woods frequently, irons occasionally and putter every now and then, but not the wedges.

Talking of which i remember Monty snapped his driver and replaced it with EXACTLY the same model but couldn't hit the thing for toffee as he couldn't get the feel back.

But at pro level the short game is everything, the difference between getting a cheque or getting nowt

No idea, but what an interesting question.

I'm guessing that a sponsored pro will no doubt be able to help himself to anything from the van, or have it made up.

Just stumbled across this in case anyone is interested. Roger Cleveland talking about Els and Quiros wedge set ups for the US Open

Basically to cope with the thick rough, Quiros is adding a wedge (and maybe taking a 60 instead of a 58) and Ernie is having new wedges, to ensure the groves are sharp.

I imagine a lot of pros will adjust their wedge set up for particular courses and I'm sure a fair few will have ones made up in different bounces and grinds for something like the Open, especially if the links are really hard baked. I seem to recall reading that Mickelson adds a 64 degree for Augusta.
