Afternoon all,

Had a fantastic lesson the other day, which I promptly fudged over a couple of days later through hitting too many balls, but it's provided an instant fix to shanks/tops.

Anyway, I get stuck massively on the inside (11-14 degrees), and I tended to close the face at impact slightly. Big hooks and shanks/tops/fats/all sorts - take your pick. So my pro told me to try as hard as possible to slice it. Hold the face open and really feel like I'm coming over the top.

Result - lovely shots, clean contact, monster draws (still setting it off 0-6 degrees right!). Loving it. Anyway! As part of it I had this hitting drill where I had to try and fade it around an alignment stick aboout 20 yards in front of me.

This was my second attempt....fair to say I don't think I could do that again!:whoo:

Yep, often have to feel a big exaggeration to implement a small change.

Good to hear of another happy golfer /coach experience.

Keep it going 👍

Your clubface is very shut at the top and you are swinging quite a lot from the inside. This will have a tendency to hit hooks, pulls and pushes depending on how you use your wrists at impact.

Try opening the clubface more in the latter part of your backswing by rotating your forearms a little clockwise so that the clubface matches the angle of your left arm at the top, currently it's pointing up at the sky. Also try using a shallower shoulder plane in the downswing to stop getting so far inside. Do you sometimes hit big pushes?

He's not asking for advice.

He's had a lesson, it's going great, no more advice needed...

Maybe not but he got some. He posted on this public forum explaining what he was trying to achieve, my observation is that the swing he shows is not doing that and I am advising him on how he could do it.

I didnt ask you for any either!

Cheers Jack, yeah got out for 9 holes a couple of weeks ago, going to get this out on the course as well ASAP!

Re: the swing, thanks for the advice but these are all things that I've worked to achieve. I (try to) play with a drive-hold release, and a shut face at the top helps with this. The steep arm/shoulders makes gravity your friend to increase clubhead speed with minimal effort and stop you throwing it out to get back near a relatively neutral plane and end up coming out to in. I have occasionally hit a push, but it's not a big feature of my game. I've forgotten what the right side of the course looks like, but I've got to grips with the left!

Haha thanks Gary, it just happens, not a conscious thought! If I try to keep it planted my movements go awry so my pro says just leave it be!

My pro had me doing that in a lesson a while back, hitting fades. Prompted me to set the stick up in my next session and managed to smack it square on and split it from the top about a third of the way down and I had to wander onto the range and rescue the stick which was embarrassing
