Pro shops closing

You are spot on , the modern day punter is a pain , I can get it cheaper online or down the road is all you hear from them , and for what? to save a few pennies these guys will drive miles , to them the grass is always greener elsewhere , these are the same guys that one day will need a few tees , balls or something else just before they tee off and then look for the pro shop and find there is none , get online then or drive 10 miles to save 20p , its the buying policy they have used in the past that has now come back to bite them ........................I know as I see these guys everyday , they wont buy something but will drive away to a few places checking the products for just about everything then come back to buy from me and try to get the price down , .......so they can get back what they have just spent on fuel driving round not to mention time ................. EYG

I agree with everything you say here. Spend £5 on petrol to save a fiver on a product is alive and well. I use the Pro shops as much as possible. Not saying I have bought stuff online because I have but buy loads of stuff from the shops. I can remember one time when a member went into the pro shop to test a new driver, the pro went down on the practice ground with him and spent about a hour with him getting the right loft and shaft combination sorted. The member then went away to think about what was going to be a pretty expensive purchase. The Pro heard nothing else and did not see the member for around 2 weeks. He just happened to spot him in the car park with said driver in his bag, a few weeks further down the line the driver had started to rattle and the member then took it into the shop and asked the Pro to send it back to Ping for him!!! Pro rightly said no chance after which the member was then heard a couple of hours later slagging off the Pro in the bar area. With folks like that around what chance do you stand

Well I'd like to think - in fact I know - that were any member to do this in my place he'd get very short shrift from others.

Hope that would be the case. Unfortunately in this case it wasn't. The fact that he had gone away and ordered the club online after using the pro's time and knowledge was bad enough but to then want the Pro to send the club back on his behalf when it went pear shaped and then to start slagging him off is unforgivable in my view

Playing devils advocate a bit here but it is clearly bad to use up a pros time and expertise then buy elsewhere but do people feel the same about people using AG and DG to try out clubs etc

Anybody that goes somewhere to just see what is best for them with no intention of buying is taking the mick whether this be at AG/DG or anywhere else for that matter. I personally have never done this and never will.

Good point. I'm sure everybody here has bought something cheaper online, or from a major chain instead of a small village shop. Price is always an important factor when buying anything. To blindly buy from a pro out of some sure of feeling if duty is a wonderful notion but one that I'd suggest many can't afford.

Can't imagine our club without the Pro and his shop and service. A few hours spent doing club fittings for HimID at no extra charge. Putter fitting for me with SAMS lab. No extra charge. He just automatically went online to check the lowest price for clubs and that's what he sold them at. His clothing is often cheaper than online as well. An Under Armour jacket I bought off him was nearly £30 cheaper than online when I looked afterwards just to be nosey. Could go on and on really but can't imagine not using him.
