I recently attended a fitting for a new driver at my local Pro Shop. After nearly an hour they came to the conclusion the best club to buy would be TaylorMade M1 (430cc) with Aldila Rogue 110 MSI Stiff Shaft. They also set the clubhead to what they though was the ideal setting.
I was allowed to take the club out of the Simulator to try on the range but decided nonetheless to purchase the club.

After receiving the club over the weekend I tried it out on the 1st tee at my local club. It was a nightmare! Shaft felt like a solid rod of steel & the head gave me no confidence at all. I put the club back in the bag & didn't use it again that round.

I made an appointment with the Pro Shop on Monday with a view to changing or returning the club as it clearly wasn't for me. They told me quite bluntly that as I had been fitted for the club & had used t outside of the Simulator I was no longer entitled to a refund or any exchange

I wondered what the consensus is among the Forum membership on this policy. I thought any purchase made with a Credit Card was covered by a money back guarantee if you were unhappy with the goods purchased.

Your case is like trying to trainers on in the shop, going for a run, and deciding they fit then wanting to get a refund for a used product.

Can personally see where the pro is coming from. They have to protect themselves from people buying things on a whim and then returning it. Your best if you don't want it anymore is to get on the for sale board.

Love this- met a customer in the bank once who thought he'd get a CC refund for a meal he didn't quite like the taste of. I never thought I'd hear of this again, until now!

You paid for a golf club on a credit card. You received a golf club. No dice.

If you had received a piece of fish, then you would be entitled to compensation- first via the seller, and then your CC company if they had to step in.

A bit odd that you only hit it once before binning it? I'm with the pro on this one. Your club is second hand and not faulty, you just don't like it. Hard lines. I'll give you £50 for it...

The only way you would be entitled to any kind of compensation or refund was if you could proof the driver you received didn't match the specs you ordered.

As long as you got exactly what you ordered there's really no reason why they should give you your money back.

Especially since the club has been specially built for you and you already used the club, which means the club's value already went down considerably.

I'd be expecting the Pro shop to take me back to the fitting area and double checking the numbers.
A decent set up would call this Customer Service....

It also highlights a problem with Custom Fitting in general - you get fitted for the swing you bring on the day.
This sounds like either they got the numbers wrong or you were swinging like a God during fitting..

I'd ask the pro if he can help with an foc/reduced fee lesson, after all you have just spent in the excess of £350 with him instead of buying elsewhere.

Our club pro would be only too happy to offer this if you had purchased, but this may depend on the manor in which you have approached him

After one hit ?

So you went through the whole of the custom fit process to find you the right shaft and after one hit from the tee you arent happy with it ?

Maybe its just the same as most clubs - they take a bit of getting used too

The problems the OP seems to have with the club sounds more like it's feel based, not that the numbers are off.

It's kind of hard to believe that someone gets on well with a stiff shaft during a fitting and then feels like a 'solid rod of steel' the next day.
Also, the head not inspiring any confidence on the course is hardly the result of a bad fitting.

I do agree that the pro should at least offer to check the club if it fits the specs that were determined during the fitting, though.

my take would be...

I'll give you a £10 for it?

I do feel for you as it must have been disappointing.
However if you have been fitted for it then you must think its a good option for you
Keep with it.

Ive a certain degree of sympathy for the op. They aint giving that M1 away. Maybe best to tape the thing up, have a lesson with it, and if still no likey then at least its not marked and you should be able to recoup most of the outlay.

Before I was fitted for the irons I had an idea of going for a fitting. Then leaving it a month, and going back again really just to double check the numbers before placing the order.

The fitter talked me out of it and to be fair I didnt offer any resistance, the head and shaft where far and away the most suitable I tried.

I still dont think its a bad idea though.

You could also see if the pro has s demo he will loan you. Set it the same and hit the simulator with it. Minimal wear on yours should you need to shift it.

If the shaft is what doesn't feel right maybe plop another shaft in it and sell the fitted one on

Iwas fitted for my driver ,a taylor made SLDR with a red tie stiff shaft.the day of the fitting i was hitting it like god ,the club felt perfect for me ,I went away feeling that my h/cap was in real danger of getting reduced as the distance and dispersion was awesome .Two weeks later my club arrived and i was straight out to the range .it was like a totally different club to what i was fitted for ,I thought it was just my swing so hit some shots with my old driver and smashed them long and straight,i just couldnt hit the SLDR.
it never made my bag for about three months as every time i tried it at the range it was useless ,but,i stuck with it and learned to hit it ,it now resides in my bag and i hit it pretty dam good .
so to the op ,it may take a while but you will get the feel of the club and will love .
