Pro celebrity golf

There was a similar thing on Ch4 abround the early 80's they used to show around Christmas fronted by Tony Jacklin. I remember they used Loch Lomond when it was brand new and then somewhere in Ireland. They had some decent pro's and celebs too, seem to remember Sandy Lyle been on one series at least.

loved pro celebrity golf.......

remember though that back in the day there was hardly any golf on TV and only 3 channels so we flocked to this as our only golf fix, later there was "A round with Allis" 3 holes of golf, yes only 3 but it was 3 more than you saw pretty much over the whole of winter:(

...then I would ride my bike down the cobbled streets to get me ma a loaf of hovis.........smoked a tab on the way back.......ahhh grand days:mmm:

I loved watching this back in the day. A great concept.

I am sure that Chris Evans did host one in the late 90's / early 00's. Ant and Dec were on it too ..... Need to go and google that

Unfortunatly I can't see it happening again though. It would only be the likes of BBC who would do this, and seeing as they are loosing everything from the masters to the grand national, there is no chance they'll go for this. A shame.

Ian Poulter would be great on it.

I use to watch it. Knew a cameraman at the BBC who use to film it every year. Sad to shatter a few illusions but a lot of these guests weren't very good and time was tight to get fliming done and so it wasn't unknown to film them making a swing, someone to throw the ball by hand onto the green and edit the two together.

I sold James Bolam the pair of Stylo shoes he wore when he was on there! He rocked up at the club to get the clubs from the locker and found he hadn't packed any golf shoes. I sold him a pair and he jumped into a cab to the airport to fly to Scotland a happy man

I sold Darren Clark a Curly Wurly just before he won the Open:whistle:

Think he needs to buy another one if that's what it does for your game! I'll have one too if that sort of success comes with it (albeit fleeting). Haha

I think Terry Wogan held the world record for longest televised putt didn't he? It was on Pro-Celeb golf filmed at Gleneagles I believe. I know someone who was there when he did it.

I'd love that to come back too!

I remember in the early 90's that C4 had a pro celeb golf prog that they would play for the Wyte & Mackay trophy,Sam Torrance was one of the captains, remember Bruce Forsyth on it.I think the format was members of the public playing with celebs and pro golfers and the prize's at the end of each show was a wee dram of whiskey.

Yeh, then Michael Phelps beat it a few years ago.

Apparantly Lee Bowyer tried to qualify for the open, a few years ago. Imagine the damage he would do wielding a golf club!!!

what ever happened to STYLO i used to have a pair and a pair of STYLO matchmakers football boots think they were endorsed by ALLAN BALL,happy days,as for celebrities the few i have played with have been proper (cant use bad language so fill in your own )

Pretty sure my Mum still has a pair of them in her lft that my Granded was given by Faldo when he worked for him. I would wear them but they are about 4 sizes too big for me!
