Playing in my first Pro-am in Cambridge in two weeks time. For anyone who saw me play at Crowborough last week they'll know that I'm unlikely to contribute on any holes however as I get on well with my Pro we've decided it'll be a great experience and if it all goes to pot we'll just get on the beer after.

The format is fourball better ball, how does this work exactly?

I'm getting plenty of practise in which explains my lack of posts on here. The practise is going well but just need to take that on to the course on the day and not let the nerves get the better of me.

Also my father in law is offering to caddy for me, the one time he did in a club medal i had by best round ever off the whites.... he really got me focussed. Being a 27 handicap would i look a complete mug turning up with a caddy?

Honesty please lads.

Fourball better ball? Sounds like the best score from the team counts.

The few Pro-ams I have played in are scored so that at each hole the pro's gross score plus the best net score from the 3 amateurs count towards the team score. The

Having a caddy off 27? Why not, if it helps you to focus. I wouldn't worry about looking like a mug, I can do that with or without a caddy :-)

Which club is the pro am at Minty? Not Cambridge Meridian GC ?

As for the caddy if it makes you play better then do it. I take it your pro is giving you lots of free lessons/ advice to help!

Better ball is the best score on the hole counts so if you gat a net par, and your partner gets a bogie, it is your par that counts.

Why not have a coaddy? Anything that makes you more comfortable, and a nice day out for your father in law. No one will care, but you could feel more relaxed, and just have a laugh.

Have fun, golf is meant to be fun.

Murph, you're right its meant to be fun. I'm just going out to enjoy it, if my score helps us along the way then great.

Just took a look eagle, its not the longest course in the world, which is good for me as i'm not a big hitter.

I'd have like to have played a round before the tourny but haven't got the time.

Really looking forward to it.
