My sister plays golf and has had a couple of successful seasons as her handicap has come down.
It has amazed me how the prizes for ladies comp's seem to be chosen. At my old club, where she still plays, there is an annual presentation evening and men, women & juniors all get presented. But it turns out that whilst the men get pro shop vouchers, the ladies get Marks & Spencer vouchers. Also, at the recent Lady Captain's day she won a voucher to a hair salon.

It almost comes across to me as the men are golfers therefore will need vouchers, "but girls you can go and get your hair or nails done, or buy yourself a nice new outfit, that'll make you feel better about yourself"!
I feel lady golfers want to be treated as equal (and should be) and then by doing that sort of thing are taking a backwards step themselves.

Is it just me or does this seem that the ladies are being sexist to themselves?

I guess they're give out stuff they would all like to win. If we had to do vouchers I would rather M&S then pro shop.

when they pay the same green fee they can complain, and what good would a prize for a hairdo be for men most of us are bald.

Ok now I know you are just on a wind up !!

The ladies at our place pay the same green fees and I'm not sure I know many clubs that charge ladies less

The ladies always pick prizes they would like

Pisses me off no end to get an M&S voucher instead if an SGU one. (SGU vouchers are accepted in many high street shops anyway, John Lewis for a fact... not sure about M&S).

Sweeping generalisation about what women like when the only thing you know for sure about the winner of a prize in a golf competition is that she enjoys playing golf.

Having recently won John Lewis vouchers - and of course handed them over when I got home and never saw them again......:)

I sort of agree; but then again I'm in the camp that thinks that any consideration by a competition organiser of what the winners would wish to receive as a prize is progress!!!

May be that the pro shops don't stock enough decent women's clothes and equipment, so don't hand out vouchers for that reason?

Nope, the old women who organise these things would rather get an M&S voucher so that's what they give out. SGU voucher is acceptable in just about any golf shop in the country (and lots of high street shops as well).

Pardon my ignorance but what is an SGU voucher?

This smacks to me of a little "agist" and "sexist in one post.!!!!!
Not like you FD:eek:

As a non-whisky drinker I used to campaign for at least some wine glasses for a change for our "medals" - I have a collection of engraved whisky glasses that are used for coke and lemonade for the kids at Xmas and barbqs

Why not just give the greatest voucher of them all - cash? Then either gender can do what they please with it.

Because then you are playing for prize money - ie professional !
