I see good 'ol Charles has sorted out the conundrum, of why has Islamic State / Al Qaeda have emerged and prospered in countries like Syria/Iraq/Afghanistan. Countries with rulers that have little compassion for and persecute their own people and are more or less lawless.
Global warming apparently.

He also creates more pollution in one year than I am likely to in a lifetime so I tend to have little faith in the genuine belief of his statements. Think of the power to work his homes. The fuel used to move the RR, Daimlers etc that transport him. He himself runs Aston Martins, not the greenest of cars. The flights around the world in 1st class. It goes on and on. Happy to spout forth but less happy to cut back on his own usage. A man looking for a purpose and yet to find one.

Very strong arguments. I'm not sure he should necessarily be getting involved either but that's just my own view and don't actually agree with a lot of his ideas on a number of subjects

He is a complete gonk. He has no idea about real life, in the real world. It's embarrassing how he is viewed as representing the UK.

I like Charles, he quietly gets on with what he wants to do and doesn't give a flying fig about what folk think. A bit like his dad.
He has made a fantastic success of Dumfries House, bringing many jobs, financial benefit and pride to a pretty deprived area.

BTW......How is he expected to travel to Australia ......bananna boat.
First class air passengers use the same amount of fuel as cabin class.

Not true as for the space a first class passenger takes up you could fit 5-6 people in.

I accept that plane travel is part of his role and so I don't hold that against him. Does he look at the size of his entourage though? Do they all need to go? Number of houses, size of houses? Cars owned, driven etc. They are all personal choices and his choices are for luxury and fuel guzzling.

Some of his points are quite valid but he is in the camp of do as I say not as I do and for that I lose respect.

did he really say that global warming causes Islamic fundamentalism or did he actually say that the increased pressure on resources caused by, amongst other things, climate change could lead to greater human conflict?

He may have a point if it's the latter

That is how I saw it .....but you know what the British press and media are like at bending the truth to make a headline.
They just can't help themselves and the trouble is that some people believe the guff behind the headline.

I would count myself as a Royalist, but I have to say I have lost a bit of patience with Charles. TBH I was wondering if I was understanding his points correctly about global warming being directly responsible for the rise of IS and Islamic Terrorism. Just then, the lady from Sky asked him directly and he said yes, it absolutely was. I have to say, at that point, I just turned over.
His argument was ( I think) that a bad drought in Syria had caused farmers to leave the countryside and head into the cities which had led to dissatisfaction with the government leading to rebel groups forming and the rest as they say is history.
In my opinion, a bit convoluted and it's not like they never had a drought before industrialisation.
Like others I am a little uncomfortable with his ideas getting so much exposure because of his position. Anyone else spouting such theories would have been dismissed as a mad Daily Mail reader (especially on here) and actually does his cause no favours as it's just another example of every problem in the world being blamed on global warming.
And it's actually quite easy to not give a toss what people think and act with little regard for others feelings and opinions, like Charles and his dad, when you are in an exalted position. I just think it would be better to learn a little empathy.

No, he was asked outright if global warming was behind the rise of IS and he said yes. He does himself no favours with the crap he spouts. He should maybe consult his mother on how to behave from his privileged position.

From the link: When asked if there is a direct link between climate change, conflict and terrorism, Prince Charles added: "It's only in the last few years that the Pentagon has actually started to pay attention to this. I mean, it has a huge impact on what is happening."

It has omitted the part, before he mentions The Pentagon, when asked if he is seriously linked global warming to the situation in Syria to which he answers 'absolutely'.

So it's not a problem of despotic states and religious extremism but rather it's gotten a bit warm. This man is going to be King.

He actually said that global warming helped create a situation due to the drought in Syria and the fall out from that.

With resources sparse in certain areas conflicts occur and that could easily expand.

What he has said shouldn't be dismissed so easily

The ownership and use of natural resources, some of which will be influenced by climate change, will be one of the main reasons nations will fight both internally and externally in the future. Not that some nations need much of a reason......

If you are poor and starving with no hope of improving your situation you will do what is necessary to protect your family and give them a better life.

Think back a few hundred years to the clearances and the potato crop famine.
Many of those families ended up as 'financial migrants'.

I'm indifferent to monarchy, just wish it was toned down here. Trouble is Charles surrounds himself with loyal yes men so he rarely gets both sides of any argument or cause he takes up. Means well enough but he's been so pampered his whole life he's just very out of touch with the everyday concerns of most people i.e feeding their families and paying the bills. I think he gets less and less relevant every passing year but yearns to be listened to.
His Princes Trust does good things but whilst I agree with his views on some things like architecture, I don't on others such as GM foods. This current global warming thing relating to problems in Syria doesn't make much sense really. The global warming thing is still a theory imo, historic big climatic events relate to earths distance from the sun as influenced by the pull via lining up of bigger planets in the solar system which caused ice ages, or meteors hitting us, rather than anything we do as a species. Seems just another way of taxing us and its seen as heresy to doubt it. The prophecies of Al Gore and others have failed to happen.
