I have always been skeptical about golf balls. For me medium priced balls, whether Srixon, Callaway or Titleist, have always been much of a muchness.

However, today in a Captain & Pro challenge match I used a brand new Pro V1 and played my best round ever! I mean "Evuuuurr!" 74 gross off 12 with our par being 70.

So coincidence or should I now be paying £4 a ball henceforth?

Titleist have just done a promotion, buy 3 doz get one doz free so work out at £2.45 a ball  It has finished now but it's the second time they've done such a promo in 15 months so keep an eye out ;)

plenty of premium balls can be bought for far far cheaper and i expect you wont tell the difference between them. Best around at the mo seems to be the Callaway Hex Chromes at £18 a dozen. Am currently using the + version and find it cracking value for the price

I use premium balls (Bridgestone B330RXS, Srixon Z Star Pro V1x) and there are usually deals to be had especially if you buy the previous incarnation as shops get rid of old stock. I really can't tell the difference between the new Pro V and the last version

Tell the truth, you only started this thread to brag about your great round:whistle: excellent shooting and in truth I doubt it was because you used a new Pro V. But if you try it again next time and shoot another 74 you have your answer!

What do you mean brag about my great round?...Well OK then I suppose it was great, although that's not why I started the thread. I started it because...erm...ah...well you see...hmm...OK I've been rumbled :mmm:

Well played! Ya bandit ;-)

I like the prov1 but not the price. There are many balls that are just as good and as people have pointed out can be picked up for less money.

Good deals on last year's Srixon z-star on eBay when I was looking recently.
Srixon ad333-tour is a really good ball for about £25 per dozen.

If you do not lose many balls then the premium balls give better VFM in my opinion. I have just used a 2013 version of the Pro V1 for its 5th full round and it will easily go for a couple more if I don't lose it. In my experience a lesser ball (with a surlyn cover) would be scuffed beyond use after 5 full rounds.

I love the prov1x and was fitted for it. But, the price tag doesn't fit me whatsoever, so I use a less "premium" ball as a result. Can't say it's made my golf any worse.
