Leaving club loyalties and individual games aside i think the prem soccer refs have gotten worse to brutal level
Players (all clubs) cheating is not helping but its obvious why none were at world cup ..
VAR cant come soon enough

I think thats unfair.
Players try to con and buy anything they can, managers put extra pressure on refs before and after games and everyone is an armchair expert.
We didnt have any representation at the World Cup because Clattenburg who was our selection decided he wanted the shekels from the desert rather than stay in the PL.
The refs have a thankless task, and no matter what they do it's wrong.

I firmly believe players diving r the cause of the doubts in refs heads just looking at a good few games d last few weeks i think its worse and more arrogant the refs are getting . Inconsistancy is the biggest failing ..

Watch the penalty/ no penalty in the Burnley game yesterday.
That is how good prem refs are.

But I do remember Lino’s getting involved much more in the past.
But now they don’t even flag they just communicate over the radio so it looks like they never get involved.
I am surprised nobody has tuned into this radio connection so we can hear what they are saying.!

Agree but they have done nothing about it.
Send them off.
Sin bin for ten mins like the rugby.
FA seem to scared to upset anyone.

Get to hear how much abuse is given between player and ref and I suspect between ref and player. Completely different attitude than on the rugby field.

If you think it's bad at Prem level, the standard of refs in the lower leagues is shocking.

Yeah and those same refs who arent good enough will be using the software!!

VAR has proved it wont always get decisions right.

IMO the structure of the referees needs to be improved 1st. Mike Riley one the worst refs in PL history is in charge of these people. Its like the blind leading the blind.

No offence to any blind people/person/gender neutral freak etc

It’s a very tough job and players are making more difficult. Take this afternoon for instance at the King Power. Pogba goes over after a strong, but fair tackle. He then starts beating the ground like he’s sustained a serious injury. The ball is played out into touch. Thirty seconds later he’s up and no sign of the injury. I don’t know what the TV cameras picked up, as I was there, but Pogba’s behaviour was disgraceful and purely designed to influence the ref. Mike Dean didn’t buy it on this occasion and played on, but many would have stopped play.

Yep i get that and think most agree with u . But even stil a guy is getting touched and goes through the air like the red arrows experienced ref should know natrual movement in tackel/ foul . It hurts to say this 😆but the keta non penalty amazed me how any ref cant see it .
Retrospective bans and a penalty point type system that results in point deduction is all that might help .. fines a waste of time these days

I think the game is a lot harder to referee now than it was 15/20 yrs ago, especially at the top level. Players diving (or going down 'too easy') being the biggest problem. The frustrating thing is it the FA haven't really tried to stamp it out. Why not have a dedicated panel to review each game and dish out bans for players found to be diving or play acting? Having said all that I'm not convinced about VAR being the solution. I think referees will stop making big decisions and rely on it too much. I also think it takes away some of the joy when a goal is scored if you think it might be disallowed 2 mins later. For me the premier league was at its best in the 90's, and it's been on the decline ever since.

The pace of play and the skill level has increased dramatically in the last decade or so. All good. Sadly though has the play acting and trying to con a referee whether to get a penalty or a player sent off. I don't really see any referee getting too much help from the linesmen or fourth official on a regular basis and I am concerned VAR is not going to really add much to the equation. I think UEFA/FIFA had a golden opportunity with the officials on the goal line but they added nothing and weren't prepared to intervene and would defer to the referee to make a decision when it's obvious they had a clear view. I don't see how the situation changes and how referees get the help they need. It's still a split second and subjective decision they have to make and they'll get some wrong

When I went to yesterday's game, probably for the first time I noticed how players who are running at full pelt and are touched have this inane ability to stop there legs from moving mid stride. And hit the deck as if shot by a Jap sniper. At the same time it is met by indescribable pain usually in an area that has not been touched. Miraculously a referees whistle heals said indescribable pain. If the NHS can buy some of those Acme thunder whistles it could save millions. However like most drugs, there is an adverse reaction. The sound of said Whistle being blown causes much anxiety to other players on the pitch which causes them to surround the referee and shout and moan. This moaning usually stops when the referee has asked them to walk 10 yards away and he sprays some "calm down" spray on the floor.
If said referees bought a whistle from the same shop where Rugby union referees bought there whistle from there would be none of this cheating, moaning, play acting, false pain etc. 👍

VAR should be good in the long run, but at the current rate it'll take about two years before they get the balance right on that as well.

I have a degree of sympathy with the referees for incidents happening at full speed; they get one shot at it, and then it gets picked to pieces, and players these days are all trying to pull the wool over their eyes.

Where they do infuriate me is with the simple, blatantly obvious decisions that they get wrong. If you want an example try Liverpool's goal this evening; Milner so obviously offside right in front of the linesman who completely missed it.

He’s missed a lot given offside when he wasn’t , he’s just not in line with play.

Was a small offside or a little one 😂👍

Lallana showed quality to get the ball out of that space the way he did, Ref got caught ball watching.

And still the side that had all the big decisions go their way are the side doing the complaining on the pitch and their manager is moaning about how hard done by they were.

Players/managers get the standard of refs they deserve when they behave like this, until there is a collective responsibility its hard to blame the officials too much for me as they are conned, moaned to etc.

Managers/players want to take a look at their own performances before moaning about the officials!!!

If only that happened in football, itd be a much better sport.
