Snelly (circa 3 handicap I think), his mate Chris (who is apparently better than Snelly), Swinger (a dodgy 3 I think) and myself (14 - sometimes) are playing Bearwood tomorrow in championship mode - off the blacks just after the leaders go out on day 2. Just checked round 1 and 2 80s are leading the gross! One person shot a net 72 - next best were 2 75s, 2 76s and 2 77s! I thought it would have been better as there was a fair bit of rain so it can't have been that quick, although the wind was up. CSS was 75 R/O.

What do you reckon we will do tomorrow?

We (well, maybe I) have already said we will pay a small fee per shot worse than handicap. I am not making any bold claims as tough strokeplay is not my best but I will be happy with 90, which would have put me tied for 21st gross and fourth net today!:mmm:

Snelly will whack it round level par using an old crutch, a rusty pipe and a hockey stick. Paul at some point in the middle of your front 9 you'll have a practice swing that will rival the speeds in the Higgs-Boson and the subsequent wind displacement will cause a hurricane in the Preston area...

Indeed, once the vacuum created by Paul's practice swing has been restored....

I'd figure Paul is likely to be as close (or maybe closer) to a ton as/than his handicap.:p
Swinger definitely has an advantage by being long. Fairways are pretty wide.
Can't comment on the others.

Enjoy. It should be fun.

Im figuring three scores near par, and one a mile over, but I'm not going to say who will shoot which score. I'm too nice to say.

Play well Paul.

Ross - I am now determined to stay the right side of 95 - may even play the odd safety shot!

:clap::clap::clap::ears::ears::ears::ears: My swing is changing Tiger - like a slow-motion version of its former self!

Not the nicest looking day (although not raining yet) but apart from wind the course should (in theory) be a bit easier than normal club champs due to the recent wet weather - can't see how the greens can be above 11.5-11.8 and they should be reasonably receptive!

My mate will score well in all likelihood. He is good in the wind and has no weaknesses in his game.

I hope to avoid the highest gross score. My golf is poor at the moment due to an enforced swing change. Much more upright swing plane now in use as my old, flatter swing was starting to cause really serious back pain. Month ago, I had to walk the last two holes as it was so bad.

All my early season, prize winning form has gone. That said, might play well today. Who knows with the fickle mistress that golf is??

Unfortunately Swinger has had to drop out - we have a place - any competent golfer (it will be tough) wish to make up the 4 ball at late notice?

I think Paul will be leading until the halfway hut when a sausage sandwich will put paid to a PB.......scuppering any chance of a new course record....

Snelly and his mate to break 80...

I wasn't nobbled by the sausage sandwich Rick - poor golf happened before and after - indeed, lost balls on 8,9,10 and 11! 5 in total. This was never a day for a PB!

In some ways we lucked out with the weather as there was no rain - although bar a couple of minutes there was no sun either! Shame as the course was in amazing condition. The wind was pretty bad and seemed to be a hindrance on nearly every hole! The greens were superb - easier than usual for club champs due to the recent rain - but still pushing 12 on the stimp, which made some shots from certain positions impossible. The 5 best net scores in the club champs over 2 days were +7, 8, 9, 9, 12 and 13 - and only 17 out of 67 entrants beat +20 net! The gross was won with 80, 76 and second 80, 78 - 3rd and fourth were +24 and +27 and only 8 beat +30.

A good fun day - Snelly's birdie with a 30 yard put on SI1 (475 yard uphill dogleg par 4) was the highlight followed by Chris' birdie birdie on 13 and 14 - and bronze going to my bogie on 18 - crap drive that looked like it might fade out on the right, found it in an OK place, going for an 80 yard half swing (not a hard shot) and duffed it 10 yards, next a 21 degree rescue and knobbed it into no-mans land towards the first tee - good possibility of a lost ball - found it and miraculously got it on the green - and then sunk a 50 footer!!
